What shall we call this? What name pops up in your mind? If all goes well it will be built this year in real life ten meters tall.

I asked the AI (Gemini) about an event from quite long ago, a fatal car crash, and it gave me an answer that I knew was not correct. When challenged it doubled down. Later it apologized profusely. Cannot be trusted!!!

@3blue1brown What would have to be the case for Pi to be just 4 or something? Sure would have made things a lot simpler. 🥴

Happy Pi Day! In a certain sense, π is not a constant, but a variable. Using our usual Euclidean distance, it is 3.14159… but applying other L^p norms on ℝ², half the unit circle's perimeter will give other values. For instance, at p=1 (taxicab geometry), “π” = 2√2. At p ≈ 2.2, it's 3.20. Anyway, the video I was hoping to have out this day will be out closer to the 20th. Some call it “missing your deadline”, but I prefer to think of it as giving the L_{2.2} norm a little love.

I don't think most people realize that there would be no electric cars on the road if not for Elon Musk. Tesla is still the only western auto maker that builds electric cars with a profit. Everyone else is forced to absorb billions of losses, which they don't do voluntarily.

@BBCNewsnight @faisalislam Byrne is my biggest musical hero, but this take doesn't resonate with me. He collaborated with Eno on the brilliant My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, but I remember hearing Eno saying he wanted a machine that could create an infinite amount of Eno music. We're there now, David!

Location isn’t everything. Hubble discovered a behemoth black hole in a surprisingly sparse NGC 1600 galaxy. It’s 10x larger than anyone predicted. 🌌

Maybe matter of time. Hard to second guess what might appear in a month nowadays. But already, we coders are at the bleeding edge of having to rethink our lives, as the first to be hit by the supersonic tsunami. If we're quick about it, what we think/say might be meaningful for the next cohort.

In my last video, I drew an analogy between how slop code + automated test criteria is essentially how evolution with natural selection creates complex life forms. ...which validates vibecoding? Clip from video below.

@atmoio Evolution as vibe-coded DNA is an important insight! It's a shock to us coders that due to the accelerated clock speed and captured experience of these new minds, their blind watchmaking outperforms our deliberate precision.
