A few months ago, Warren Smith hadn't heard about the double slit experiment, but after watching some youtube videos about it, it really made him think. Then he even wrote about it in his book! Unfortunately, he seems fairly confused about it.

China haters are so funny because they refuse to praise China for things that China does objectively better than all their countries. Imagine sitting there being like “not that impressive it’s just a bunch of skyscrapers with neon lights, massive scale urban planning, energy infrastructure to support hundreds of millions of people, nationwide high-speed rail, dense supply chains, port logistics, modern digital payment ecosystems and entire megacities built in decades” just dimwits 💀

@opinali why would you look at individual frames for an inherently animated product? Completely different principles apply, especially wrt motion

It can't even handle any fast moving object wells, but to be fair I don't know if those catastrophic frames in the FIFA demo should be blamed on the upscaler, FG, or the new AI filter. All of them have trouble with big disocclusions and very fast things. AI is not magic.

Daniel got important clarifications from NVIDIA. TLDR: the "DLSS5 skeptical" were right about *everything*. 1⃣ It's a 2D AI Filter. Input is only color buffer & motion vectors. The model doesn't see geometry, lights, PBR properties, normals, anything🧵 youtu.be/D0EM1vKt36s

why isn’t there an underground research community for people to publish research outside of the system and outside of conventional channels? the world doesn’t have very good infrastructure to enable this

@flxia_ @GraphJJA @FangYi11101 This isn’t quite right, though it’s an easy mix-up. A single sum X+Y need not be Gaussian: two dice give a triangular law, while if X,Y \sim \mathrm{Exp}(1) are i.i.d., then X+Y \sim \Gamma(2,1). The CLT is about summing many independent variables, not just two.

@GraphJJA @FangYi11101 it's just that convergence happens as we increase the # of summed RVs, so with only 2 we just get a triangle shape (which is only a rough approximation of a normal distribution) but that's still the CLT in action

@GraphJJA @FangYi11101 the two random variables are the two dice. the distribution of their sum converges to a normal distribution

@lankyfranky20 @FangYi11101 well yea, it's nowhere near convergence, but i don't think it's accurate to say that this "isn't how the central limit theorem works"

@HistoryBoomer I don't know about more important, but it's the point he was making. If you import more people, there will be more crime. Plain and simple.

Total crime is more important than per capita??? You live in a village with 1 murder a year. I live in a city with 300 murders a year. But my city has 8 million people and your village has 20 people. If I were you, I’d be scared. Per capita is more important.
Jon Snow@JonSnow50616798

@HistoryBoomer Bad way of looking at it, because total crime is a more important stat than per capita crime.

@elliotarledge The estimated 1050 TWh is roughly 4% of the electricity consumed already in 2024, and that's for all datacenters combined, not only new ones/AI datacenters. Wrt energy consumption (rather than electricity) it's even less, roughly 0.5% of the 2024 total.

True. I conduct digitalization research for about 30 yrs. At Uni Potsdam, I used to ask my MSc students what they were doing digitally vs. analogously. This is the smartest answer I got: "If it has to be fast, I do it digitally. If it needs to be good, it's pencil & paper."
Brandon Luu, MD@BrandonLuuMD

Students who took notes by hand scored ~28% higher on conceptual questions than laptop note-takers. Writing forces your brain to process and compress ideas instead of copying them.
