I’m late to the show today. We placed my Mother in a Long Term Facility this week. Her recovery from her stroke was very limited and the brain damage was just too much. Seeing her like this is one of the most unpleasant experiences I’ve ever had. Then, just as I was about to finally get going for the day, a friend of over 40 years was in need of my help in writing the obituary for her husband, who passed away yesterday, after a long battle with cancer. When writing an obituary, it’s something you don’t hammer out like a tweet. You’re summarizing a persons entire life on earth. It’s forever. I take my time. Experiences like these, while not pleasant, are just part of the path of life. The longer we live, the more of it we encounter. My overarching belief is “It’s not a useful approach to make the tough experiences in life…even tougher. Leave them alone, at “tough”….don’t needlessly push them to “tougher.” Thankfully, my sister and I only live about a half mile from each other, and the facility where my Mom is, is less than a mile away from both of us. We are fortunate, with that. My Mom will be 79 in October. She had over 78 years of good health. She was able to enjoy three of her grandkids into their teens, and one until 10. I was always the “problem child” growing up. I’m sure you’re “shocked.” Not in the sense of being in a lot of trouble with the police. It was more of me always…ALWAYS..marching to the beat of my own drummer. As rough as it was for her, in my youth, she never once suggested that I conform to the templates of others. She knew I had to be me. She was always there for me. Always. To this day…I continue living life on my terms. It could be no other way. She knew that. I was her “black sheep.” If she was reading this tweet, she’d have said “I would expect nothing different!” and kiss me on the cheek. If we cease to enjoy our lives, every time some unfortunate experience happens, and/or someone else can no longer enjoy their lives…it would kind of defeat the purpose of life. They have passed on, or become impaired…we haven’t. These things, and much worse, happen to all of us. We cannot escape these bumps along the road. What we can do, however, is prepare for them. How do we do so? By keeping in mind that we will periodically face them. We just will. Knowing that these things WILL happen…sharpens our resilience. Acceptance…of life. ALL of life. I’ve found that people who never like to consider or think about these experiences happening one day, are often those who get knocked down the hardest…and who stay down the longest. Occasionally reminding ourselves that, we will, without a doubt, face these circumstances countless times in our lives, has the ability to stabilize and prepare us for them, so they don’t hit with as much wickedness. Life is FULL of beautiful moments…even when it is peppered with seeming moments of hell. It really is. We just have to stop thinking that we some how care less…by not diving into a swirling soup of self pity. Being more miserable than others, and for longer…is not a sign that you love or care more than those who don’t. It is not. It’s often simply a sign, that we didn’t prepare for these inevitabilities well enough. Conversely, bouncing back quickly is not disrespectful, or a sign you don’t love or care as much as others. It simply means that you’re lovingly resourceful and resilient. That’s all it means. You can be resilient…and care just as much as anyone else. Let the tough things be tough. Don’t unnecessarily make them even tougher.

@KalaniPonoIII It’s an arraignment. The indictment will be unsealed and the charges read to him. He will enter a plea and there will be a bond discussion. He will most likely be released on his own recognizance.

Cawthorn guilty plea was for the third-degree misdemeanor charge of possession of a dangerous weapon on city property, according to his attorney. @SuzetteVoteKIDS The militia groups aren’t as big of a threat as lone wolves. For the most part, the militia groups are loud and obnoxious, but don’t actually want to cause any problems. The lone wolves are largely the ones plotting actual attacks.
