@stephestellar Yes. One would think the statement "this isn't the end" is a low bar, sort of damning the day with faint praise, but I am in a state of mind to interpret it plainly and rely on it as just what I needed to hear.

It's a marathon in front of us. People who love everybody, listen to scientists, tell the truth, and seek to do good in the world will have much work in front of us, frequently unrewarded at first. We have been preparing. Have a good race. See you on the course!

Well-planned and strategic initiatives for dramatic carbon reduction are LESS disruptive and kinder to all travelers ... even aviation travelers ... than the current oblivious trajectory. Just taking one sector, for example, intentional #flyingless strategy is a gentle policy.
Stay Grounded - @staygroundednet on Bluesky 🦋@StayGroundedNet

As #dana hits Catalonia, after leaving a trail of destruction in Valencia, El Prat is the latest in a list of airports being disrupted by extreme climate events this year, which are fueled by the aviation industry's greed. We need to act now to bring aviation to the ground.

While traveling by train and bus to Belize, my daughter Keziah (yellow t-shirt and blue shorts) met the delightful enthusiastic Telugu-language YouTube celebrity @Naanveshanaa, who is a brilliant cross-cultural communicator. This has 400k views in 2 days. youtube.com/watch?v=mKXNZu…

It's worth seeing the timelines of scientists such as @rahmstorf and @MichaelEMann to see the on-going discussions and debate about AMOC

Fascinating to see UK govt being asked about – and then giving – this answer relating to "ongoing research into collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation" (AMOC)... "an abrupt collapse is unlikely (although not impossible)" @GreenJennyJones @LordPhilofBrum

At Long Wharf in Boston, on a sunny day in October, we discuss history tourism, sea level rise, and the misleading understatement of CO2 emissions in an official report from Logan Airport across the harbor. A Red Rebel silently passes through the frame. youtu.be/m-pyVyKRgRE?si…

Very odd for the government to announce an airport expansion against the recommendation of the Climate Change Committee on a day their industrial strategy claims to have green growth at its heart and boasts about UK decarbonisation assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/670cde86…

Twitter (X) feels like a once-lively party where friends have left and combative drunk gangs have moved in. Some competitors feel like standing in the corner, not knowing if there is more fun happening on a different floor. Blu*sky does seem promising recently. Say "hi" there?!

@DaleVince What a dreadful position. From both reliable evaluation research and our experience in our own home 18 months ago, heat pumps are excellent. And why not advocate for your favored green technology at the expense of fossil fuels instead of other green technologies?

The government’s heat pump programme risks tens of millions of people forking out thousands for technology that doesn’t deliver. The case for all homes to have heat pumps does not stack up. Let’s have a proper debate on this informed by the facts. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Love the Joan Didion quote on Newport: “There is something in the air that has nothing to do with pleasure & nothing to do with graceful tradition. A sense not of how prettily money can be spent but of how harshly money is made.” motherjones.com/politics/2024/… via @H_Lev @MotherJones

I can't resist one more photo, because the day is beautiful and the subject is fascinating. This appears to be wind turbines being prepared for installation offshore. The low-carbon world we fervently wish for is feasible, within what economists call our "option set."

@Race4caster First, isn't that a tired old fossil fuel industry trope? Second, why should you be so strongly influenced by Al Gore, who you don't even respect? Why not be influenced instead by people of good faith, strong conviction, and commitment to science?
