Here are a few of my current thoughts on the Nancy Guthrie case: 1) I have a few observations, but I don’t have any theories, criticism, or judgement to cast at this point. Everyone’s free to opine, but not enough is known publicly for me to want to jump in. 2) Victimology is critical and elder abuse is central to this investigation, however the types of elder abuse and the three categories of people who are most often responsible has been largely sidelined from public discourse. Victimology can be discussed without pointing fingers. 3) Elder abductions are rare, but happen more frequently than one might think. Those responsible may be family, caretakers, a person in position of trust or strangers. Motives vary from the elder’s well-being and financial gain, to malicious intent. 4) I’m hearing Occam’s Razor thrown around a lot. Other than how she went missing, with the simplest explanation being the masked individual in the video taking her, the principle does not yet apply. Everyone arguing over theories vs conspiracies is a moot point. There are numerous plausible scenarios and motives. Until you have a suspect or evidence suggesting motive, that will remain the case. 5) The intricate street network and environmental conditions in Nancy’s neighborhood suggests a targeted crime by someone with local knowledge and comfortability. The Foothills are in their awareness space and Nancy’s house intersects their cognitive corridors, but I don’t think he (they) lives in the community. 6) Most burglaries are during the day, so there are several likely scenarios for entering the home around 2 am: a) Offender did not care if the home was occupied - highest risk. b) Offender targeted the victim. c) Offender knew the victim was vulnerable. d) Offender knew Nancy’s schedule and was confident she would be elsewhere. *All scenarios, except for (a), suggest that the offender had knowledge of Nancy. 7) I think there are three potential primary targets and I see no indicators that suggest law enforcement has identified which it is — but I could be wrong. The likely primary targets are: a) Nancy Guthrie, b) Nancy’s family, and/or c) Nancy’s property. 8) Tower dumps are good, but geofence warrants should also be executed. These warrants are very localized collections of device location data during a specified timeframe. Cross-referencing travel time, mobile devices, CCTV, and ALPR’s would be useful. My assumption is that this is being looked at. 9) I still have many questions about the initial search efforts of the surrounding area. From what I have seen publicly, it doesn’t appear that it was properly conducted. I’ve seen an 80-year old with dementia walk over a mile, through a snowstorm, wearing a bathrobe, in the middle of the night — so it needs to be thorough. 10) There’s too much finger pointing and baseless accusations going around. My 96-year old grandfather lives alone, drives, curls three times a week, and doesn’t have a single camera inside or outside of his home. I know I’m in Canada and safety concerns may differ, but independence is at the core of his identity and mental well-being. I hope Nancy is located and reunited with her family. 🗺️ #NancyGuthrie

So lady does have an owner. It seems like what’s happened is she got loose from her lead and somehow got herself tied around that tree and got herself stuck. They’ve been looking for her and while I’m super sad she belongs with her family.
