@benfowlkesMMA But at the end of the day, the thing that's gonna kill the UFC is a bunch of Dagestani dudes with amish beards and zero personality. Guess you can't plan for everything.
English

@benfowlkesMMA As a fan, this has always driven me nuts.
But man, from the business PoV, it's insane how well they've managed to keep the fighters in line. So many failed attempts at fighters unions, and so many top fighters missing time in their prime.
English

@arielhelwani I really respect the skills of the current champions and top contenders, but not many of them are particularly compelling. I miss both the extreme personalities we used to have, but also the stylistic clashes.
As a result, I've become pretty checked out.
English

@atRachelGilmore Thank you. I thought I had been taking crazy pills when I read that the Liberals seem to think that the issue was teaming up with the NDP to spend money on these things.
Wait...this is X. How I am replying to you? Are people behaving now? ;-)

@Beefshaver On the last day of the year, I have a winner for 'new to me' word of the year. Enshittification. Wonderful.

@JFreshHockey I can't think of 'O Holy Night' without imagining Cartman singing it. That alone puts it into S-Tier.

Limiting it to 7% ABV during Imperial Stout season just seems like an attack on middle-aged dorks like me.
Which, tbh, is probably fair.

@Bambammon Any advice on who to vote for, or should I just do my usual and pick the coolest name?
English

It's election day BC! Go vote like your lives depend on it because for many it does. #bcpoli

@arielhelwani Ben is easily the best writer in MMA. Thanks for amplifying him.

“Yes, a strong economy is important to me, but it cannot come at the expense of our democratic institutions, and it cannot come at the expense of social cohesion.”
Kareem Allam is endlessly fascinating.

@Bambammon He's in a crouch, riding the wave, not daring to do anything other than hope that he's got more time before the wave collapses on him and he gets dragged underwater.
Smart play, really.
English

This is what I mean. The man is afraid of interacting with anyone who may be critical. I have a sneaking suspicion he gets angry very easily and knows it.
Aileen Machell@aileenmachell
Premier Eby ends his speech at UBCM by taking questions from local government folks in the room on everything from housing to public safety, transit and environment. Of note, John Rustad will not take questions at UBCM.

@Bambammon I missed lynn.ca literally by a week. I made the guy an offer of $60, which would have tripled his money in a week, he turned me down.
He's never used it for *anything*.

@foley_design @OakandThird51 @HarmanBhanguBC If you download the catalog, in the introduction they have a link for cost estimates.

English

David Eby, leader of the BC NDP, was in North Delta visiting his Housing Minister, Ravi Kahlon. Instead of support, he was met with protests and chants of 'Shame, Shame NDP!'
People are fed up with this socialist government that's driving our province into the ground.
BC deserves better leadership – not the chaos and protests we see under Eby's watch.

@findyoursunset @OakandThird51 @HarmanBhanguBC Where are you getting the $425/sqft from? Legit curious if this is an estimate that someone has put on these specific designs, or if it's a more general number for homebuilding in BC in 2024.
English

No trouble with Standardized housing.
My issue is with their predicted cost.
In the 1950s, homes cost rough equivalent of $10 a square foot to build. Today, $425 (as a base case). A 2000sqft build at that price is $850,000. Is that really a good definition of "affordable"?
In 1950, most standardized homes were less than 2000sqft, they cost less to build. What's more, land was WAY cheaper! The average cost of an acre of residential land in Vancouver today: $4million. Chop that up into 0.10 acres parcels, you're looking at $400,000 for bare land (I suspect that's even low). Add onto that an $850,000 home (+GST)....you've got yourself a perfectly unaffordable home for nearly no one.
English

@Garossino As a lifelong NDPer, watching the federal NDP squander this opportunity has been deeply embarassing.
English

@Bambammon Completely unsurprising. It'll be interesting to see if they remove the cap completely, or do something like roll it back to inflation + 2%.
English

@Bambammon I've been working on heavily trafficked sites for BC Gov, and performance as a part of accessibility has been a focus. It's a good shift.
