I'm mourning the death of Brazilian music star Sérgio Mendes (1941-2024). This track from his famous Brasil 66 band still sounds fresh and vibrant, so many decades later.

Okay so this is wild. I'm using this ticket machine in Japan and it malfunctions and doesn't give me my change. Suddenly, a panel in the wall opens in the wall and a guy appears and tells me to hold on and then gives me my change.

@nickfloats I doubt the company has plateaud in capability, and that's certainly the opposite of what they say. I do think though that GPT4 is much lazier than it was. No you have to berate it into doing work, otherwise it often just tells you how you might do the task.

Have a weird feeling that chatGPT has plateaued in terms of capability, the models aren’t getting much better, so they’re just productizing everything to eat up the market No gpt-5 release, but they’re releasing search, personal assistants, promoting Sora, etc Maybe more data doesn’t equal better models…

@harrymccracken I think the negativity was intentional to get attention for a fairly dull product release. The ad loses most of its force if you edit out the little head being crushed at the end. Apple’s latest MacBook refresh did not have an event, this is to address flagging sales.

Kinda feel like if I express any opinion about Apple's iPad ad other than unbridled hatred, I will be ratioed out of existence, but....' ...The concept, poorly executed though it was, is that all these things are being compressed INTO an iPad, not destroyed, no? Some of them are digital to begin with. And Apple is just about the only tech giant that does not seem gleefully determined to replace some percentage of human intellect and creativity with AI. You may now pelt me with rotten vegetables.

Today I learned that SwiftUI offers a built-in 𝚂𝚌𝚎𝚗𝚎 named _𝙴𝚖𝚙𝚝𝚢𝚂𝚌𝚎𝚗𝚎(). It's great for building macOS apps where you need to use AppKit windows, like 𝙽𝚂𝙿𝚊𝚗𝚎𝚕, but you still want to use SwiftUI views via 𝙽𝚂𝙷𝚘𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚅𝚒𝚎𝚠. Oddly enough, even though _𝙴𝚖𝚙𝚝𝚢𝚂𝚌𝚎𝚗𝚎() is an undocumented symbol, Xcode still offers it up as an auto-complete option.

This is the only thing I don't like about SwiftUI. Apple releases the next version of iOS and your app start randomly crashing.
