The Willowherb Hawk-moth will be on show between 11 and 12 today, please DM me for details. Will do another tomorrow morning before release if there is demand.
@ds_stanley_@botolphsbirder Will be on view 11-12 today, DM me for details. Quite busy today unfortunately, but looks like will need to do another showing 11-12 tomorrow, then will release at midday.
A night of trapping at Folkestone last night produced a singe Convolvulus Hawk-moth, a stunning Golden Twin-spot (seemingly scarce again so a likely migrant?) and a pristine Dewick's Plusia (the pulse was racing as it came to the Ni Moth lure..) @MigrantMothUK
@dartfordtrapper@mothsinkent It's a learning curve that @NigeJarman and I have both been on. I'm not sure they are separable on external characters, although I have never (knowingly) seen botrana and I'm not sure how reliable a lot of published images are.
@folkestonebirds@mothsinkent Certainly a learning curve - i matched up the image in Manley. If it turns out to be reliquana then I'd be curious to learn if there are any morphilogical differences that separate the two or if gent dent is the only reliable way of determination.
@mothsinkent@dartfordtrapper Contrary to the literature, there is certainly a second generation of reliquana. I am aware of 42 that have been trapped in the Folkestone/Hythe area since late July.
@trapsite@PBeraet Nice one Sean! 264 Box-tree Moths at Hythe but no Clifden. Duponchelia fovealis was the highlight (outdoor record, possibly established locally)
Signs of immigration last night with Small Mottled Willow & Hoary Footman in New Romney and Clifden Nonpareil & two more Hoary Footman in Saltwood @folkestonebirds
Trickle of migration in the past few days at Langdon: Woodlark, woodcock, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Black redstart and c30 Redwing, 10 stonechat this am, Dartford warbler, Marsh harrier West and white wagtail on Sunday, no chaffinch movement yet 🙄
