@BubbleLad777 @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad What do you mean by "affirming sin"? Are you trying to bring in the culture war nonsense? lmao, you did the thing I said conservatives do, and you said nuh uh. Thanks for proving I was correct.
English

@forivall @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad The problem is when someone affirms sin, they're going against the Gospel (evangelical) message (which is about repentance of sin instead of affirming sin), which is why there is a clash.
English

@BubbleLad777 @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad Nah. My extremely affirming and progressive church tried to hold onto calling ourselves evangelical, but the culture wars of the conservative churches associating themselves with the word has made it untenable and we unfortunately have to use alternative terms.
English

@forivall @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad But it's the exact opposite - the non-evangelicals are mostly the ones who bolted the culture war stuff onto the word "evangelical"
English

@cunha_tristan @SlopHq I just don't like people who write like they're an LLM.

@cunha_tristan @SlopHq Okay and your argument starts with 2 lane roads. I don't need your lengthy reply slop

@BubbleLad777 @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad Meanings are different than definitions. Definition implies prescriptivism, meaning implies descriptivism.
I'm saying that conservative evangelicals bolted a lot of their culture war nonsense onto the word "evangelical". I'd love to prefer Menno Simons' use in 1539:

English

@forivall @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad "Why would anyone try to invent some other meaning for it?"
"Ask conservative evangelical Americans why they did that. I'm sure you know many."
Please tell me what your reply means if I got it wrong.
English

@cunha_tristan @SlopHq Op said a freeway. Try pulling up those numbers. Highways can be simple 2 lane roads, but freeways mean 6 lanes or more.
And America is so behind on building rail that, unfortunately, it often does cost more right now because expertise and economies of scale aren't there.
English

The last time I looked up the data it was:
Highway construction averaged $5-11 million per mile for rural/urban (that's from FHWA data, 2024)
And the latest rail transit is more like $300-500 million per mile ( from the Eno Center and Transit Costs Project).
And honestly, the cost for rail might be underestimated there, recent new rail in the US has often come in way above that.

@SJSharks_fish @KirstiMiller30 Trans men are inherently disqualified when they take testosterone as it is treated as doping. That's another rule that needs to be changed. So trans men usually compete in the women's category before medical transition, and retire to continue transition.
English

There have been 13 Olympics that have allowed trans women to compete in the female category if they meet the hormonal and physical requirements of the trans sports policy. The results over 13 Olympic games suggests trans women massively underperform in elite womens sports.
Since the IOC has created a rule for trans athletes to compete in 2003, over 81,000 people have become Olympians. Out of those 81,000 Olympians a total of 2 have been trans women & one came dead last the other came 37th out of 42.
There isn’t a single trans or intersex woman dominating her sport. Even Caster Semenya, the most famous, & most successful, intersex woman athlete doesn’t “dominate” her sport. Caster has won a total of two Olympic golds medals & holds no world records.
By contrast, Katie Ledecky has won a total of 9 Olympic gold medals and has broken 19 world records since 2013.
Why is Katie Ledecky treated like a marvel, and Caster Semenya and transgender women are treated like mutants?
There currently exists no evidence to suggest that trans women who elect to suppress testosterone (through, for example, gender affirming hormone therapy and/or surgical gonad removal) maintain disproportionate advantages over c_swomen indefinitely.
More specifically, current evidence suggests any physical performance advantages trans women do not fall outside the range observed among XX women after 2 years of testosterone suppression.

When you consider everything they did to silence Riley, you realize why so many women & girls still fear speaking up. It also deepens your respect for those that bravely do it anyway, regardless of the price. And there’s always price.

🌍 Athletics claimed in 2009 that Semenya had an unfair advantage agains other F athletes. 16y later & there has not been a single study of the performance of women like Semenya in comparison with XX women to assess the possibility of an unfair advantage.
That was until now.
Seven amazing scholars
from the U.K., Canada, and Switzerland have just published as a pre-print — Gollish et al. 2025 — the first such study.
Gollish et al. compare in-competition performances of 9 women who fall under the 2024 World Athletics DSD Regulations (& who have publicly stated so) against the performances of hundreds of other women who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Gollish & colleagues conclude that
“No, these women like Caster Semenya do not have an “insuperable advantage” over other women nor do they perform like men.

@BubbleLad777 @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad Try responding to the things I said rather than inventing your own ideas of what I'm saying. In fact, it looked like you answered your own question, by inventing ideas of what was said.
English

@forivall @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad So, liberal evangelicals never invent definitions, only conservative evangelicals?
English

@BubbleLad777 @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad Ask conservative evangelical Americans why they did that. I'm sure you know many.
English

@forivall @masonmennenga @FrancAndrad "Evangelical" originates from the Greek word euangelion, which directly translates to "good news" or "gospel".
Why would anyone try to invent some other meaning for it?
English

@masonmennenga @FrancAndrad So, you no longer believe the Gospel? That's what calling yourself an evangelical means. It is proclaiming that you believe the Gospel. You're claiming you don't believe the Gospel by saying you are NOT an evangelical.
English

@masonmennenga I saw a few people mentioning that the ol' wwjd trend eventually led to them deconstructing their faith. We love growth.
For those who are still conservative evangelicals, I think wwjd was just something to distract from sexual thoughts, etc.

@PortraitureByP @BobOmbWill @nocontextmemes I've never heard of him, but I did see the name in the stopwatch, so I did have that to go off of.
English

@BobOmbWill @nocontextmemes Well, ZachDFilms has a very recognizable style, and I believe most people recognized it right away and were waiting for the punchline to drop.
It's not like when you see a 'to be continued' meme and comment, 'You stole it from JoJo.'
And chill, it's just a silly stupid meme

Hello, I am from U.S. State. Our drivers are terrible. Our pizza is unique. Our roads are badly maintained. Our largest city is full of crime and the suburbs are snooty. We are intense about State University Sports Team. And the weather? If you don't like it, wait five minutes.
English

@u23rn4m3_t4k3n @homosexualmouse Nah, in my culture, we don't party, we just go to church
English

@homosexualmouse No you don’t get it, in my culture we say the party is over and then it lasts another 2hrs. The kids are all sleeping on 2chairs in the back. You wouldn’t get it though
English

@axiochrono @averagegtfan @homosexualmouse Are they the "love food" or hate it? (I'm Russian Mennonite, which has some Dutch roots, and we love food. (Notably, we have portzelky and apfelkuchen, which are basically oliebollen)
