@notestomm @ToPiraeus So true.. no one lives in a vacuum. Societal expectations do influence us either we admit to it or not.

@ToPiraeus for the beauty standard that constantly changes. their whole worth is based on their appearance, forgetting they’re so much more than that. it is so unfortunate, and talking about it always gets dismissed as an attack when infact it’s arguing the system we are all victims to.

كفاية خوف من المجتمع i find it terrifying that cosmetic procedures and surgeries have now become normal. i say this with no judgement in my heart towards the girls who do this, but a lot of judgement to our failure as a society. the beauty standard has become so unattainable and suffocating that women have begun to physically alter their appearance in a desperate attempt to get closer to it. i simply do not believe it’s a true choice. would women make the same choice in the absence of the beauty standard? in the absence of a flood of perfectly filtered and edited women on their screens? in the absence of the notion that the most important thing a woman can be is beautiful? i just don’t think that’s the case. i don’t find it empowering at all. the idea that the only way to love yourself or to be beautiful is to chase after a constantly changing standard that is, quite literally, impossible to achieve is not female empowerment. it’s a suffocating sexist notion that places the value of women in their physical beauty.

if you miss a workout or gym day you immediately get fat and ugly and then they kill you and your entire family and everyone you love

I have been re-reading Man and His Symbols and remembering why my 18 yo self was so inspired by Jung’s work.. I know he is a controversial figure in psychology today but I appreciate his unique way of viewing the human inner world, it’s honestly so refreshing
