A Palash tree, also known as flame of the forest, from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Entry by Neelam Dubey. Here is what she has to say about this tree - "The Palash tree Botanical name: Butea monosperma Often called the Flame of the Forest. Locally known as Khakra in the tribal regions of Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh. The Palash tree holds a very special place in my heart.❤️ It is more than just a tree for me; it is a bridge to my childhood and my roots. I remember how Bheel tribes used its leaves to prepare Paniya, a traditional bati-like dish in Jhabua district in which a small balls of maize flour dough were placed between Khakra leaves and cooked over an open fire, giving them a unique flavor that still lingers in my memory. The Palash tree also connects me deeply to Holi, my favorite festival. Its vibrant orange flowers are used to make natural colors, adding purity and warmth to the celebrations. They signal the arrival of Basant, a season of transition, renewal and the gentle onset of summer. For me, the Palash tree is something I feel intrinsically connected to and I wish to remain close to it throughout my life." #FORREST #conservation #TOTY2026 #treeoftheyear #treesofindia #bhopal #palash

A Majestic Baheda tree from the forests of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra! Entry to FORREST's tree of the Year 2026 by - Ashish Bhoyar Tree Location - Gewardha, Kurkheda Block, District Gadchiroli, Maharashtra Here is what he has to say about this tree - " Terminalia bellirica, commonly known as Bahera or Bibhitaki, holds a prominent place in classical Ayurvedic medicine and traditional healthcare systems of India. It is one of the three vital fruits that constitute the renowned rejuvenating formulation Triphala, valued for its holistic healing properties and its unique ability to balance all three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.Ancient Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita refer to this tree as “Bibhitaki,” a term meaning “the one that keeps away diseases,” reflecting its profound therapeutic significance. The fruit is extensively used in treating respiratory disorders, digestive ailments, and various systemic conditions, demonstrating its wide pharmacological potential.Botanically, the tree produces characteristic fruits that are nearly spherical with five distinct flattened sides. Interestingly, these nuts are believed to have been used as dice in ancient Indian literature, including references in the Mahabharata and Rigveda (Book 10, Hymn 34), highlighting their cultural and historical relevance. Thus, Terminalia bellirica stands not only as a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine but also as a living testament to India’s rich ethnobotanical heritage, symbolizing the enduring connection between nature, health, and traditional wisdom." @maha_tourism @oltraveller @MahaForest #FORREST #conservation #TOTY2026 #treeoftheyear #treesofindia #gadhchi

A huge Baniyan Tree From Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Scientific Name - Ficus Banghalensis Entry By Sadiya Bano Here is her thoughts on this tree - "The Banyan tree lees like a tree and more like a presence. Sometimes I sit under a tree and don't try to be poetic about it. I just sit. The Banyan tree teaches us the power of resilience. The Banyan tree ( Vatavriksha ) is highly revered and loved in Hinduism for its immortality, vastness and sanctity. The Banyan tree is best identified branches , long , hanging roots ( baroh) , and dense shade. It's trunk is very thick and sturdy, and when its leaves or branches are broken, a milky liquid ( latex ) oozes . Its leaves are broad, bright green, and oval." #TreeoftheYear #challenge #FORREST #Trees #TOTY2026 #indian #trees #forest #photography #nature #environment #conservation #jabalpur #madhyapradesh
