We need to start fighting back language wise. People like this commissioner are clearly chromophobes. Chromophobe (n.) — Someone who neurotically refuses to accept that sex chromosomes (XX, XY) are the primary, reliable determinant of biological sex in humans and other mammals. They cherry-pick rare DSDs as "proof" of a spectrum, obsess over exceptions while ignoring the binary gamete reality (sperm or ova), and treat basic genetics like a social construct to be wished away.

As Australia’s sex discrimination commissioner rightly goes viral for insisting that men who claim to be women need pregnancy protections in law, it’s important to put into perspective what is happening to the law: Men are getting protections they don’t need (pregnancy) while taking away protections women do need (single sex spaces & sport, etc). This is incoherent and is an embarrassment for legislators with every day the law remains this way. What you can do: email all MPs & Senators informing them that you want the sex discrimination act fixed - BACK THE BILL.

After a TANTALIZING conversation with someone, I came up with a new word: Chromophobe (n.) — Someone who neurotically refuses to accept that sex chromosomes (XX, XY) are the primary, reliable determinant of biological sex in humans and other mammals. They cherry-pick rare DSDs as "proof" of a spectrum, obsess over exceptions while ignoring the binary gamete reality (sperm or ova), and treat basic genetics like a social construct to be wished away.

Watching you gaslight yourself is very entertaining. Every competent biologist recognizes chromosomes as the primary sex determinant in our species. Exceptions prove the robustness of the system, not its fragility. Denying this is like denying gravity because airplanes exist. What you're attempting (badly) to frame is ideological sleight-of-hand from gender mysticism: erode the material basis of sex to insert feelings or identity as the new arbiter. Biology doesn't care about your feelings. I'll leave you with this since you like portmanteaux: Don't be such a Chromophobe.

Oh, the sterile argument. I love this one. Anomalies in a system don't dissolve the system. Exceptions prove the rule exists. And complexity in the mechanism doesn't mean the outcome isn't binary. Female and male are still the only two reproductive roles that exist. There is no third gamete. Anyway, thanks for doing the meme.

@elizabethgamm2 @TheLawfulEvil @fortunatecook The word you're looking for is 'defined', and no, sex is never defined by production. Obviously -- sterile individuals are a sex all the same. Your qualification doesn't prove their statement incorrect. It proves you don't know your developmental biology.

@HelenWebberley Ah, the ol' Goebbels approach. Accuse others of what your enemies themselves are doing. That checks for you.

I think there are some tired old bigots, hanging on to their income and 'position' in the public eye, that are just leaving the worst taste in people's mouths. To live your life spouting hate, for your own gain, is truly awful.

Feminist campaigner Julie Bindel argues that university campuses have been taken over by virtue-signalling, upper-middle-class, entitled, spoilt activists. What can today's students learn from yesterday's political trailblazers? @bindelj

@heikateryna @elizabethgamm2 You're mad that women are fighting back against an ideology that tried to take away their rights? Women wouldn't need to fight if men hadn't decided a fetish was an identity and the rest of us were expected to applaud. As they say, actions have consequences.

@elizabethgamm2 @fortunatecook My point is that women being awful to women is an issue. That's it, full stop. Why you two are boy crazy and have to somehow make this about trans women is beyond me.

You're so close. "Trans women aren't female" your words. Glad we agree. The part you're wrong about is your obsession with DSDs. Their existence doesn't make sex categories magically disappear. So women excluding trans women are excluding males. Not women. Your complaint dissolves on your own terms. Care to back track?

@fortunatecook Word order matters; DSDs aren't exceptions to a rule. Did my saying trans women aren't female confuse you? If you know that XX males are male and XY females are female, and that trans women aren't female, that takes us back to my complaint: Women excluding women is an issue.

The amount of energy you're wasting to admit the truth is quite impressive but I'll bite. Adjective placement doesn't change the definition. Female modifies human either way. And here comes the ol' intersex conditions schtick. Rare chromosomal anomalies don't redefine the category any more than albinism redefines skin pigmentation. Edge cases describe exceptions to the rule. They don't dissolve it. Don't confuse variation with category error.

@fortunatecook It's "adult female human", like "mature female drosophila", not "adult human female" like "mature drosophila female". "Female" modifies species, not vice-versa. And in your view XX males are male, and XY females are female?

Oh, ok. I'll even through in a few more for free. Woman: adult human female Female: of the sex whose reproductive biology is observably structured to produce large gametes. Sex: the biological classification of an organism by the type of gamete its reproductive system is structured to produce. (Large gametes female, small gametes male.) Gametes: a haploid cell that fuses with another haploid cell during fertilization to form a new organism. (In humans, either an egg or a sperm.) In short: Transwomen are men.

Trans people face much higher suicide risk than homicide risk. Transition doesn't reliably resolve underlying distress, and suicide rates remain elevated even post-transition. If social acceptance were the cure, you'd expect post-transition rates to drop significantly. That being said, if you want to help save trans lives, transition isn't the solution. Dysphoria is frequently comorbid with autism, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Treating those underlying conditions first, before any irreversible intervention, produces better outcomes. The real solution is psychiatric care, treatment of comorbidities, watchful waiting especially for minors, and not fast-tracking unnecessary hormone treatments and medical procedures.
