The grass on Center Court at Wimbledon over the decades shows a change in the wear patterns. This transformation is not the result of new, more resilient turf or grounds keeping technologies, but due to changing racket technology. In the era of wooden rackets, the heavy weight of the racket resulted in a "serve and volley" game. Given the impossibility of finishing a point from the back of the court, players resorted to volleying to win points at the net. With the shift from wooden rackets to modern materials, the game moved towards powerful baseline play. Today's players are taller, hit hard from both sides, serve aggressively, and finish points predominantly from the back of the court.

"I think links golf is more unique in the sense of the greens are always a bit flatter, and it's typically more uniform in the firmness. It's just by nature of how the golf courses are, how this soil is, the type of grass it is. The greens are also typically a bit slower over there.
"Here, it may look like a links golf course because there's no trees and you kind of have that grass, but I don't think it necessarily plays like that. You can hit a few linksy-type shots, but overall, the ball is still played in the air on this golf course. The ball needs to be hit up in the air, especially to hold these greens.
"When you have big false fronts and then some of the greens even pitch away, like No. 10 is a good example of you physically can't -- it's almost impossible to get the ball to run up that hill. Depending if it gets even firmer tomorrow, maybe that's something that we try.
"It looks like a links golf course, but I don't think it necessarily plays like one."

Aladdin Sane is a great early music listening lesson in disappointment. I remember how excited I was as a kid. It has the big picture, it's all Watch That Man!!! And then it just sucks lol. It sucks so bad. It's hilariously overwrought. He screams "time! Quaaludes and red wine!"

@TigersJUK Everyone knew this team was playing above its level during the best stretches of the last couple seasons. I had no idea the floor was actually this low though, which is what makes it more disappointing.

I think the worst part of the Tigers being bad is I actually like pretty much every player on the team.
Wenceel was clutch the last two seasons, Vierling before he was injured sparked the big comeback in 24, Vest threw huge innings for us, Tork had big hits down the stretch, McKinstry & Javy at the all star game was brilliant, Flaherty when he came was legit etc etc
I don’t want to get on be negative & see others doing the same to these players, they were all part of the best two seasons in a decade…
But they’ve just been SO BAD. Very upsetting.

I find it odd that John Elway has 0 first team All-Pro selections. People will gaslight you and tell you he was some top 5 QB OAT when he was arguably not even top 5 in his era most of his career. His legacy was a inflated when he won back to back Super Bowls off Terrell Davis’ legs (7 straight post season games over 100 yds) a Rod Smith 80 yd house call that was under-thrown, and 4 turnovers from his defense gifting him his SB MVP.
