@BethWilliamsSE@AECBnet Nice thread Beth 👍 It’s also worth noting an increasing trend in the commercial world for exposed soffit concrete slabs with integral heating/cooling pipes in the slabs. It makes me wince for similar reasons - but worth keeping an eye on to see what issues/solutions arise.
Designers: if using reinforced concrete raft foundations (with the insulation below, loadbearing) do u specify underfloor heating pipes 2b positioned within the raft, slung between the re-bar? (as opposed 2 above the raft in an additional screed). How many engineers approve this?
Just finished @BBCRosAtkins brilliant book.
Us architects think we’re really good at presentation/explanation - but we clearly have a lot to learn.
Ros traces his thinking from student days, so it’s also a great illustration of the development of expertise.
@James_Taite Fascinating thread.
Interestingly, on the design side, I had just come across this quote from Ove Arup:
“When engineers and quantity surveyors discuss aesthetics and architects study what cranes do, we are on the right road.”
In the last few days, I've read inspiring books by @jake_fiennes + @guyshrubsole + re-read @natchjourneyman 's. Our natural & built environments require much healing + I'm left feeling more optimistic + with a stronger desire to help. Thank you.
@NeedleandMortar Thanks very much - appreciated. Covid caused a hiatus which hasn’t quite settled down yet but I do hope to get back to posting soon. There’s a lot to talk about!!
@fosterarchitect just came across one of your blog posts. What a fantastic little piece and a great blog. Have you stopped posting? I couldn't figure out how to register to comment on your website either. practicalarchitecture.com/blog/minimum-p…
@katylcowan@creativeboom “It can be humbling to realise just how many great achievements have not been the result of superior talent or technical know-how, merely that strange buoyancy of the soul we call confidence.”

I like this idea a lot. A tip that I should have added to my recent talk on Curiosity + Creativity…
(… I liked the idea so much it appeared in the July Monthly Jotter).
