I'm no enthusiast for lower speed limits, but if you drive at or close to the speed limit crossing the Remutakas or indeed many of the mountain crossings, you'll be dead in minutes. Furthermore as long as agricultural equipment is permitted for short distances on state highways..
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi@nztamain

In good conditions you should be travelling at or close to the speed limit. Slow down when conditions such as bad weather or traffic make it unsafe to travel close to the speed limit.

Damn, sorry everyone, we need to put interest rates up again. Another 10,000 people on the dole should be enough to get this under control.

@shananhalbert @EricaStanfordMP @SimeonBrownMP Pedestrian crossings and speed bumps are different things. I think speed bumps are insane and dangerous but fully support zebra crossings, they shouldn’t be raised. Raising them is more dangerous as you slow for speed bump and are looking at your speedometer instead of for ppl

@StuartBDonovan Moving to CV seems backwards, but proportionally their rates are much cheaper now then 10 years ago given the value of their assets. I know I’m oversimplifying things but there’s a cost to this housing inflation, and councils are going to need to get the money from somewhere…

Our future economy needs today’s kids to be in school. New data shows a 6.1% increase in school attendance during Term 2 compared to last year. We’ve set ambitious targets to get this to 80% of students present for more than 90% of the term by 2030.

@OpinionistNZ @nz_voter Labour from the last election is also the only government since MMP started that’s managed to form a majority from their party votes alone, which earned them some mandate to do what they promised - pity they under delivered so hard IMO.

@OpinionistNZ @nz_voter Yes, they wanted to move responsibility away from councils who universally underinvested in these basic services to appease ratepayers, which we’re all inheriting the mess of now.

Sth Wairarapa Council CEO saying we cannot find the money for water upgrades, so we will have no growth. Adds that funding was confirmed through Three Waters reforms. We had a solution. We had a way forward. This Government has sent us back with no solution. Appalling.

@MaximusNortius @ClintVSmith Look at the money they spent on setting up three waters and how much the people at the top were getting paid. I think that's all the evidence I need.

Just to be clear, the govt has created the absolute mess of decisions around Thorndon Quay. Through LGWM, TQ was designed to Waka Kotahi guidelines & verified by an independent safety audit. New govt has pulled the funding, but not the guidelines. thepost.co.nz/nz-news/350371…

@AlecMuses @ponekeben Given that there's two childcare centres on that road, I'd argue the one outside Bordeaux isn't sufficient. I don't have strong opinions on the proposed 5, but crossing from co-kids to lighting direct because I parked heading to Hutt Road is not fun at a 4:30pm pickup.

@ponekeben TQ only needs one crossing outside Bordeaux. It’s a commercial hole, not one that really attracts foot traffic outside the poor sods that miss the interislander bus from Wgtn Station and have to walk down such an exciting windblown, rained out and log export festooned street.

Killing more pedestrians to improve safety is a brilliant idea that only simple Simeon could come up with. Of course, other jurisdictions have solved this problem simply by creating slits through speed bumps/cushions that large emergency vehicles can drive through.

Simeon Brown@SimeonBrownMP

Yesterday I met with FENZ to hear their concerns about speed bumps that make it challenging to respond to life-threatening emergencies. Our Govt won't be funding new speed bumps that inconvenience motorists, but we have made funding available to remove them on high-volume roads.

Hard for me to support someone with no values, lies, cheats, rapes, demeans women, hates immigrants like me. He may cut my taxes or reduce some regulation but that is no reason to accept depravity in his personal values. Do you want President who will set back climate by a decade in his first year? Do you want his example for your kids as values?
