One problem is the 3rd party industry around disability claims. What started as a good-faith effort to help veterans with real disability claims get their deserved, earned benefits has morphed into a pay-for-doctor machine that non-deployed/non-combat MOS use to get disability.

Of all the things that never happened... In order to get full disability after just 2 years is to have experienced an extreme service related injury and medically discharged.

The idea that normal wear and tear which all aging Americans experience is now getting compensated is the issue. Our fellow vets now openly lie about all sorts of benign conditions during their exams that are not provable. It’s a giant scam. We are heading to almost every vet having a rating. And that’s absolute BS and not what the public agreed taxpayer funds to go to. Take away the ability to work while collecting 60k/yr and nobody would care as much.

I don’t have much to say on the VA benefits thing. I’m unrated. I won’t be forever, but I can tell you that there is a very poor understanding of what 100% (or any other %) disabled means vs what it doesn’t. Regardless of if they “fix the fraud” or not, there will still be people at 100% disability rating walking around you normally. That’s simply because it doesn’t stand for how disabled you are, nor does it align directly to length of service and/or deployments. It’s a percentage of total benefit. If you’re purposefully or ignorantly misrepresenting that, especially with the resources available for you to educate yourself, we have beef.

Military Disability fraud is rampant. You can claim erectile dysfunction and get a check, as it’s a recognized disability. I’m sorry, but unless you served in combat, you shouldn’t get disability.

If you think the Somali fraud is bad, buckle up for the forthcoming reckoning over VA fraud. Nobody wants to talk about it because it inherently requires criticizing “veterans,” but the problem isn’t going to fix itself. There’s an entire cottage industry that helps “veterans” defraud the VA at the expense of veterans that are actually disabled. The culture has become so toxic and entitled that ALL veterans are advised to pursue a VA disability rating, regardless of the nature of their service. In fact, there’s now people joining specifically to pursue easy, lifetime “disability” payments. This behavior is enraging to people who are, or know, genuinely disabled veterans.

Disposed of the system? You can literally work for 20 years in military and retire forever. You can leave at anytime and get the best mortgage rates, healthcare forever for free, preferential hiring. Military service in no war situations is less difficult than an Amazon delivery driver.

I am begging someone, anyone to clean up the disability fraud in the VA. This guy was a Navy reservist who went to school for the Government and got out after 2 years with disability benefits for anxiety and depression. This has to end.
