Solo gamedev is a rabbit hole. I wanted to implement the battle art direction, which made me work with lightning, then creating a grass system. Now I am building a scene editor for setup, but to save the scenes I started building a save system, then... #gamedev #indiedev #godot

@francium_221 For additional data, the interesting things to look at are using names to hold data, like prefixing things by what they are, or post fixing effects, "TILE-homepatch-WOBBLE", and also using the custom properties fields, both on meshes and materials. All are exported!

@witchfell I use blender for the mechs; the fact you can import the .blend file directly in #godot is great, and updates automatically. I don't use it for level design because I don't have complex geometry. To be honest, is not an option I had considered, maybe there is a space for it.

@francium_221 Yuuuuup, it's rabbit holes all the way down. One way to avoid some of that is to try and adapt as much existing stuff to your pipeline, anything that isn't core to what you actually care about building. e.g. I'm trying to leverage Blender for my level layout.

魔物の煮物 さんのミサイル射出システムを参考に、ばねを使ったコールドローンチ式垂直発射システムを作ってみました。 射出後に点火して空中で向きを変える物をイメージしています。 対空車両のトール とか作れないかな? #ゼルダの伝説 #ティアキン #Zelda

@francium_221 Yeah the third lod for the trees are 2 quad in x, but for better shading and transition i'll try to convert them into octahedral impostors

From #Blender to #Godot using the Rendering Server. ~11.4k trees and still well above 150fps (I'm still going to keep exploring ways to optimize it even more)

I did some updates to the placement mechanics to fit better the new grass. Mech range highlight and place icon updates. I like the arrow, but needs tweaking. Synchronizing the tile animations globally gave me more trouble than expected. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

Work has been a killer lately, but I did manage to squeeze some time. I implemented a stylized field/grass that I actually like. Also I kept the halftone shadow. It needs tweaking but is getting there. #godot #indiedev #gamedev

What I need to do next, is build the scene loading logic, so that I can add roads, forests, cities, etc. and keep them persistent, so that if a node is revisited, the same design is reloaded. Also, I need to discard the deck (not a deck builder) and implement the new UI.
