Crazy enough HIV can stay silent for years while still damaging the immune system. Some people get flu-like symptoms 2–6 weeks after infection -fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, rash- but many notice absolutely nothing.
That’s why waiting for “first symptoms” is dangerous.
