@citizentvkenya PS Bitok is out of touch with reality. Very elitist. Pouring resources to national schools to double intake won't solve the problem. Sharing resources to many more smaller schools will. God help Kenya.

@chuckdavie @OptaJoe Pointless argument. All EPL teams slow down a game when they get ahead. Toughest league. This stat just shows that Arsenal are the best team and almost always lead. Brighton commits more fouls than Arsenal. Arsenal didn't have to hurry when ahead🤣.

@OptaJoe What a pointless stat. Brighton fouled us 14 times, why should Arsenal be penalised for having to take freekicks all night because the team with the most yellow cards (72) in the Premier League wants to break up play constantly?

30 - Arsenal took 30 minutes and 51 seconds to restart play against Brighton last night, their highest total in a Premier League match this season. Delayed.

My dear Bill, happy birthday! Today, I thank God for the gift of your life, for the journey we have walked together, for your courage in moments of uncertainty, and for the steady love and discipline with which you carry the weight of leadership. I have seen your heart for Kenya, your tireless commitment to serve, and the quiet sacrifices that often go unseen. As you mark another year, my prayer is that God grants you good health, inner peace, and renewed strength. May He surround you with wisdom, protect your steps, and reward your labour with hope for our nation and joy in our family. With all my love and gratitude, I celebrate you, not only as a leader, a father and a husband, but as the man God has entrusted to us.

@SokoAnalyst A colleague from a UK University told me they feel Kenyans lack social media discipline and that we are bullies. I was shocked. Is this related to this point?

Corruption. Short cuts. Incompetence. Greed. Scamming. Has ruined genuine opportunities for the rest of us. If we don't deal decisively with these vices, no one will want to work with us ever, from across the world. This is very sad and painful.

@JumaCJ1 The ugly truth is that courtesy of their parents, they're well connected in the Job market. Strathmore is an expensive private university in a lower middle income country. Anyone who can afford it is well connected.

@Sab__G I disagree. How do you judge someone based on facial expression? Either find a better reason to criticise, or give the lady a fair chance.

@AmbokoJH Kenyans have little idea on the strong, direct relationship between sugar products and major, costly illness. I love the idea, especially on ring-fencing the funds for health promotion and healthy school feeding programs. Let's do this URGENTLY.

Pretty strange twist at the ongoing Finance Bill 2025 public hearings as Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Hon. Bernard Kitur tables a proposal for a new levy called "Health Promotion Levy". Here's what you need to know: The Levy & its target · He is calling for the introduction of a Health Promotion Levy targeting the Soft Drinks Industry · He says this levy aims to reduce sugar consumption, encourage healthier product reformulation, & generate revenue to support public health programs Design of the Levy · The structuring of the levy will be such that any product with the set base of 4g/100ml will be exempt from the levy, any gram above that attracts the levy at Kes 1 per g/100ml for locally manufactured beverages & Kes 2 per g/100ml for any imported beverages · He is proposing that 100.0% fruit juices with no added sugar & Dairy-based beverages containing at least 75% milk content be exempt from the levy Use of Proceeds from the Levy · He is proposing that proceeds from the levy be deployed towards School Feeding Programs & Public Health Awareness campaigns; subsidies for healthy beverage alternatives & Diabetes and NCD prevention programs Musings · Isn't this a case of double taxation? This is precisely why we have excise duty on sugar based products · This deviates away from the Medium-term Revenue Strategy which provides that progressively excise should be based on sugar content (& not a separate levy)

Today in our summary of submissions made regarding Finance Bill 2025, we look at proposals tabled by @ICPAK_Kenya, @PKFEA, @Andersen_KE & @DeloitteKenya. Quite impressed by submissions regarding widening of PAYE bands, I hope the @NAssemblyKE Finance & Planning Committee accords them the seriousness they merit. A 🧵on my key highlights.

@citizentvkenya Such conversations show growth in citizen voice and social accountability. But more needed to broaden tax base, speed up disbursements and incentivise healthy practices through taxes and subsidies.
