And since 1967, let’s throw in 2 European championships and runners up twice also in the Euros, for good measure.

Except that since 1967, Italy have won 2 of 14 World Cups, come second twice, 3rd once & 4th once. Thats the equivalent of winning 8 Stanley Cups, being in 17 Finals and only losing the Conference Finals another 8 times. Try again, brother.

The frustrating thing about Italy missing a third straight World Cup isn't just that Italy missed another World Cup. It's that so many people will have good ideas about how to improve things, pitching ways to fundamentally change a system that has allowed this venerable establishment to atrophy, and none of it will matter. The same arrogant charlatans who've witnessed this catastrophe over and over again will continue to drive Italian football into the ground. It's the helplessness that really grinds.
It's only been a few hours and FIGC president Gabriele Gravina is already trying his best to maintain the status quo. He has normalized the very embarrassing reality of missing a World Cup. But he is only one of the many self-important people in the FIGC who make a mockery of the Italian game. His overall apathy is a part of a broader pattern of conceit that has discouraged input from the likes of Roberto Baggio, and more recently ostracized Alessandro Del Perio, Paolo Maldini, and Carlo Ancelotti. The FIGC isn't interested in talking to the people who matter because they'll make the people who think they matter look silly.
It's a power struggle as old as time: Politics hold back the Italian game, and as long as the same rotation of political opportunists control it, Italy will never regain its place. These people, who pat each other on the back and hire their friends and act as if they have royal assent, hold hostage a team that really belongs to the tens of millions of Italians who have lost another opportunity to show their pride on the global stage. We can't talk about the shortcomings in youth development, or the overemphasis on individual tactics, or the abandonment of defensive principles, until these people are gone.

#OTD 20 years ago Andrew Card resigned as President George W. Bush’s Chief of Staff.
Andrew Card as Chief of Staff Enforced message consistency across agencies post 9/11 to prevent future terror attacks.
Card famously professionalised the White House post Clinton, Card enforced tighter control over who could speak publicly which reduced leaks and off message comments.
Card was famous inside the White House for running meetings exactly on time. Staff joked that everything ran “on Card time”
Before entering politics Andrew Card was a Volkswagen mechanic.

It’s been 25 years since we lost Al Palladini.
A proud champion for Vaughan and King and a larger-than-life public servant who inspired so many of us to get involved. As a kid in 1999, I had the privilege of working on his campaign for the first time, seeing this authentic man in action.
His generosity, vibrant personality, and big heart are what I will remember — a legacy that lives on in our community.

My friend, Chris DeLaat, took this fantastic photo of Niagara’s Peace Bridge recently.
In his photo, he also captured the commercial scanning facility which was completed almost 2 years ago.
I've been pressing the Liberal government to move ahead with the technology that can immediately determine the contents of commercial vehicles crossing the border. The approval of the scanning equipment, which is actually being paid for by the US government, is stuck in Canadian bureaucracy.
I am hopeful that our painful and slow-moving bureaucracy will finally give the green light to this technology, which is widely used around the world.
Right now, Canada is not leading the way on this issue, but falling behind our partners. 🇨🇦🌎
Canada, for some strange reason, does not seem to have a box to check in our bureaucracy that would put this technology to work to catch criminals, contraband, and stolen assets.
That needs to change, and I will continue to press government officials to put these scanners to work as soon as possible.

"I so admire the people of Canada... Deep down Americans love the people of Canada. They're smart, hard-working, industrious. We appreciate them so much!"
Thank-you to one of my favourite US Senators, @SenJohnKennedy, for the kind words! 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸

I couldn’t be prouder of the boys on the U.S. Hockey team for their hard-fought Olympic victory. And I have to give credit where credit’s due: Well-played, Team Canada.

Well done!
At a time of historical amnesia, it's more important than ever to remember the roots of our political and legal inheritance.
When I was Minister of Citizenship, I used to say to new citizens following their swearing-in that "today you have become the inheritors of a magnificent tradition of ordered liberty, a tradition grounded in the Charter - the Great Charter of 1215!" #MagnaCarta
