'Gunfight at the O.K. Laundrette', the first episode of Minder, was originally broadcast on this day in 1979.

@RodneyMarshall1 And just to thrown in my tuppence… when they got to King John in October ‘53, my father co-staged the fights. It was one his early gigs.

July 1953. Richard Burton begins a mammoth 39-week venture at The Old Vic playing in 5 Shakespeare plays. His moody Hamlet divided opinion. Churchill loved it, but fellow cast member Gielgud asked him backstage: "Shall I go ahead and wait until you're better? Ah, I mean ready?"

🤖 What is more frightening than a Cybernaut in the hands of a diabolical mastermind? This electronic humanoid, once fanciful, has become a reality today. #TheAvengers #TheCybernauts

@HighlanderStuff I think Dad used to have his Fasil head at some point… or ‘a’ version of the head… we’ve been told he used to take it to conventions, but we never found it after his passing, so we may have been mistaken, or maybe Dad just lost his head for real, somewhere!

@RodneyMarshall1 My father (Peter Diamond - stunt arranger) always enjoyed working with him, on Ivanhoe first, then the Saint. Benevolent Burglary was mentioned earlier. That was one of his. Fun fact: Dad latterly went on to arrange and fight with Moore’s daughter on Lionheart (1987)

Was re-watching a couple of b/w Saint episodes last night and it reminded me how good Roger was in the action sequences. For someone who was a pacifist in real life, and claimed to be clumsy, he clearly relished the fight scenes. #haymaker

@RodneyMarshall1 Another great post. Really enjoying these. My own late father (Peter Diamond) arranged/performed stunts on many ITC series - including the three you’ve discussed here… and many more of your insightful tweets - thank you for sharing it all!

“It was his rules which made the series, they set the tone.” By the time Dad had returned to the UK, the series was in production and was a completely different type of espionage series from the one originally mapped out.

Often, the pre-production history of a tv series or film is infinitely more interesting or intriguing than the production history itself. Danger Man is the perfect example. In the late-50s my mother was working for producer Ralph Smart at ATV. She got my father a job there, 1/

The phenomenon goes on. Still pinching myself, all these years later, to think how I was a part of this… how every lightsaber folks swing today, every gaffi stick they shake - heck - even the pew-pew-pews, go back to our daft Dad… #mtfbwy #StarWars

In 1976, Fox released a trailer for a movie they had zero faith in. The film wasn't even finished editing, there was no music, there weren't even final graphics. Yet this original trailer for Star Wars is still one of the greatest trailers of all time!

@archivetvmus71 Happy days at ye olde manor at Maidenhead… Dad stunting, and myself and my brother running about as street urchins on the series. Oh. Did I say ‘happy" days? I should have said "muddy". Yep. Very, very muddy…

@StephenLawsSL Thank you, Stephen. I’ve been typing away quite furiously since I got back from our q&a - FFF gave me the kick up the backside that I needed to get on to this at last!

Diamond info#10… if it interests anyone here, I’m finally getting my act together, scouring the paper trail, memories, and disc after disc as I piece together a book about our father’s extraordinary stunt career!

Diamond info#9… Our late father’s career is stuffed with uncredited appearances - things that aren’t identified on the IMDb, or anywhere else - like this one in "The Saint". ("The Covetous Horseman" - series one, episode four)…
