@Dan4Barnet Why is it not fair? People are taxed on their income. If someone chooses to spend their after-tax income on a bigger house rather than say an annual holiday abroad, why should they pay more tax? Genuinely curious.

Right now some £10m homes are paying less council tax than a normal family home. It's not right and it's not fair. So this government is changing it.

@BlokeOnWheels Simple. The rising cost of welfare is increasingly paid by business taxes. Now much more expensive to employ people in the UK - esp. younger people - as employers NI, Corporation Tax & CGT have risen It's the main reason we moved our company - and 10 jobs - to NZ 2 years ago

Can someone explain to me how cutting benefits creates jobs? I can understand how it would increase the likelihood of somebody taking an already existing job, but I fail to see how it actually stimulates job creation.

So bored with know-nothings who think it smart to throw out the word ‘neo-liberalism’ as if it settles the argument when, in fact, it contributes nothing to public discourse.
Sandra Hope@spanishblueye

@afneil But the national direction has ruined the UK in many ways in areas like that one. Neoliberalism is it's title, still being practiced now to great lengths. The media avoids the conversation as the media is run by corporate interests & capitalism, biased reporting on a daily basis.

Labour's opponents don't want Starmer out. They want an immediate General Election and getting Starmer out is the first step to that - they will NEVER stop demanding one if he leaves. Starmer's opponents within Labour should bear that in mind.

@MikeHolden42 I can’t help wondering if an *immediate* GE might perversely be the best thing for the country. Outcome, with a sensible cooperative strategy is likely to be a Labour/LD/maybe Green coalition. Whereas in 2 years time it might be much worse.

Why are the media so uninterested in Ben Habib allegation that Farage and Johnson were each handed £1m by Christopher Harborne to fix an election. It at least merits further investigation and scrutiny Imagine the resources they'd invest if it was a pair of glasses for Starmer

@smales_paul @Neets21 I agree. But the Left want more regulation to counter what they see as anti-Labour, anti-Starmer bias. It's another gift to Reform from the Left - who can't complain as it's what they wanted

I don’t feel let down by Keir Starmer. However, I do feel massively let down by our media. There seem to be very few journalists who are reporting without fear or favour or in the best interests of the public. They are a braying toxic mob intent on destruction Why? #Starmer

@TedUrchin @UKLabour Voters who abandon Labour are essentially xenophobic and often racist, you say? Great way to win votes - and you call the Labour left nutters?

You do realise, don’t you, that when the lunatic left of @UKLabour say that the local election results say that Starmer isn’t ‘connecting’ with the people, many of those very people who voted Reform are essentially xenophobic and often racist? I’m quite happy not to connect with that mindset. The Tories lurched to the right to try to appeal to them. That didn’t work well, did it? No. Stick with Starmer. #StandWithStarmer

@premnsikka If they want to pay more tax, they can simply write out a cheque to HMRC. Pure virtue seeking.

@Hepworthclare I read Reform are looking at strong press regulation after the next election. Maybe planning to license journalists with a government office to vet articles before publication, crack down on fake news and ensure the Government's position is reported accurately

PM Starmer has made mistakes. But the media has to accept some responsibility for what is claimed to be the public's extreme dislike towards him. From the very start the media hounded him. All coverage was negative. The media is a powerful influencer. Sometimes irresponsibly so.

@AlanFarrimond I'd love to hear Starmer refuse questions from certain media organisations, even the BBC, on the basis that they are hostile agents who are committed to the destruction of the Labour Government at the behest of billionaire interests. That is the truth. Time to say it out loud.

This is actually a tremendous opportunity for Starmer to face down these fools, charlatans and silly little infants. He can take them head on, and free himself for the rest of this Parliament untouchable and totally secure. More power to him.
