🎙️Ange Postecoglou speaking on Mental Health: "I’ve lived 58 years now, and there’s never been a time in my life where everything is perfect. I lost my father 3 years ago and he should have been here for the journey, so I’ve got to deal with that. That’s just me talking personally, but everybody, everybody in this room at this moment, one part of your life could be flying and there will be something, it could be a family member, could be a health issue, could be a financial issue, there’s always something and footballers are not immune from that and sometimes I think they fall into the trap of thinking they are, and they’re not. Just because you have money or you’re really good at something, life will still find a way to keep a balance - that there will be stuff in there that’s gonna be stressful, it’s gonna be upsetting and you’ve just got to deal with that. I don’t think anyone (in the game) doesn’t understand that but we just choose to ignore it. At times we just think ‘well he’s a footballer, he’s got money, what’s he got to complain about’, but as a footballer they also have to understand that perfection doesn’t exist in life. There are plenty of people who we would assume to have all the advantages in life who are fairly unhappy. I think for the most part people understand are empathetic, sometimes we just choose to ignore it because it makes a more impactful scenario that ‘fantastic footballer has problems’, well they all do mate, they all do."

My mother worked as cashier at Pick and Pay and she was able to provide for her family because of the employment that his company created. In my meetings with Mr Ackerman, I came to recognise and appreciate the giant of a human being that he was. With the passing of Raymond Ackerman, earlier today, South Africa has lost one of its great business leaders, an inspirational entrepreneur, business visionary, generous humanitarian and retail legend. Mr Ackerman was managing director of Checkers and grew the Pick ‘n Pay group into one of the largest supermarket chains in Africa. Mr Ackerman created tens of thousands of jobs for South Africans and through The Ackerman Pick ‘n Pay Foundation, funded a plethora of income-generating community-based projects uplifting hundreds of communities throughout the country and teaching entrepreneurship. In addition, the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development in Cape Town and Johannesburg teaches entrepreneurial skills for the growth of the South African economy. The Ackerman Family Trust has produced more than 600 university graduates, including 50 educators, 80 doctors, 70 accountants, 25 lawyers, 15 engineers, 12 veterinarians and 10 dentists. The Ackerman founded Zama Dance School in Gugulethu, has introduced hundreds of children to the world of dance and produced some of the country’s top dance performers. Raymond Ackerman was a proud South African who always believed in positive outcomes for our country. He was a driving force behind attempts to bring the Olympic Games to Cape Town. Ackerman fought constantly against the Group Areas Act, stating that it was unjust, unfair and inhumane. During the Apartheid era he provided housing loans to staff and educational grants to his staff and their children to encourage university education when, such opportunities were not open to black children. Raymond fought tirelessly for the rights of consumers, pioneering cheaper house brands and sparking a fight with government to supply cheaper petrol to consumers. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ackerman family, we wish them comfort during this difficult time and as is the Jewish tradition, wish them all, long lives.

The DA-led Western Cape created 167 000 of the overall 169 000 jobs in South Africa in the last quarter of 2022. Just let that sink in. Voting for the DA in 2024 is no longer about politics - it is about choosing the only realistic option that can save our country.

It wasn’t about making a political statement – human rights are non-negotiable. That should be taken for granted, but it still isn’t the case. That’s why this message is so important to us. Denying us the armband is the same as denying us a voice. We stand by our position.
