No smallpox hasn't been eradicated Monkeypox aka MPOX aka Moneypox is Smallpox. Smallpox was never eradicated, it was renamed.

Dr. David Goldberg talks about medical therapy to make the healthy Fontan healthier, focusing on the potential role of PDE5 inhibitors. FUEL study (udenafil) failed to meet primary endpoint of improved VO2 max, follow-up study is ongoing in pts with reduced baseline VO2. #AHA25

The patient perspective: The way FALD is communicated to pts is very important. FALD is inherent to Fontan and not something that pts have done wrong. Despite FALD, people can enjoy a very normal life and we have to contextualize to pts and families that we are still learning.

What can be done now to optimize liver health? Exercise and other lifestyle management incl. avoiding hepatotoxins such as alcohol, potential pharmaceutical interventions (PDE5 inhibitor?), optimize the Fontan circulation!

Dr. Taylor Houlihan on optimizing liver function in the Fontan. Questions remain in regard to surveillance: How frequently should we screen? What are reliable lab markers and imaging grading scales for FALD? Is there a role for surveillance biopsy? #AHA25

Dr. Christian Kreutzer on optimizing the anatomy for Fontan. Every imperfection adds to resistance and jeopardizes the future of the Fontan circulation. When it comes to anatomy we need to strive for perfection. #AHA25

Integration of mental health professionals and/or programs in Fontan care to build resiliency and support mental health at an early age may help to sustain mental health in these individuals.
