never met a man who hates costco. it transcends race, class, and creed. i’d trust a costco hospital with my life. i’d send my kids to costco daycare. i’d be laid to rest in a kirkland signature casket

@Empty_America I think because they are more likely to be sent to war and hence to die. I have never looked in much detail but I have heard that men of higher intelligence in some european countries were more likely to due during ww2.

Interesting to consider that there are almost certainly severe personal fitness/survival disadvantages to being "thrice-exceptional." Otherwise it wouldn't be exceptional, would it? The genes are there in the population. But nature clearly prefers different "builds."
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil

I simulated 100,000 people to show how often people are "thrice-exceptional": Smart, stable, and exceptionally hard-working. I've highlighted these people in red in this chart:

@Empty_America Honestly, I would much rather live in Coruscant and vacation in Arcadia than the other way around

Mars needs to look like Coruscant, so that Earth can look like Arcadia.

@Empty_America True, perhaps that has more to do with the aging of the developed world, the problem is it seems that fertility drops are extending to lower and lower gdp per capita. In this context, development ie your best bet, else you might be aged and under-developed

@free_thinker_9 It's quite possible that even the military power returns of development go negative at some point. Modern Japan probably could no longer conquer a younger and more populous but less developed country.

Many people implicitly believe that "development" has some inherent value outside of human happiness. Most would probably agree that Filipinos seem happier. But the same people would insist Japan is a superior society, because more developed. Odd if you think about it.
Joseph@aestheticist_

@Empty_America i was in japan and then the philippines on the same trip years ago and there is no doubt that the average filipino is much happier than the average japanese.

Two things are true here: 1: it sounds like the interviewer was an asshole 2: most employers will skip Peiyuan after seeing him post this Poor judgement Everyone clapping in the comments will not be there for this guy (see Cloudflare girl for another cautionary story)

@Empty_America It feels weird, everybody loves the comfort of modernity, but I think a lot of people have a sense of something missing(misplaced or real).... Perhaps, we can never know what we are missing unless we were there which we can't....
