Old facts matter a lot ... but they must be treated differently from live facts. Because an old fact may still be true, historically important, and necessary for context, while being completely useless for novelty. That is the distinction. Historical facts provide memory. New facts provide movement. A serious news engine should know the difference. Not all old facts are the same. Anchor historical facts These define the background of the story. Examples..... the case began in 2022 the politician was previously charged the company was founded in 1998 These matter for context, not for breaking news or spamming news readers with .... Resurfaced facts These are old facts that get pulled back into current coverage. Examples.... an old corruption allegation reappears during a new arrest an old court order is cited again These are dangerous because the media can make them look fresh when they are not. So the system should ask...... Is this fact new, or merely resurfaced? Persistent facts These are old facts that remain valid across time. Examples...... X is the governor of county Y the law requires Z the contract was signed on a certain date They are old, but still structurally useful. Expired historical facts These were once true, but are no longer active. Examples..... the hearing was set for last week the road closure was only for one day the interim death toll was later revised These need time-awareness. A fact can be true and still be expired. Legacy facts These are facts from the past that still shape how the present is understood. Examples....... prior convictions past government notices previous mergers old disasters in the same area These may still carry explanatory power even though they are not new. So each fact in the engine should probably carry a time role
