25 deepwater wells at 1000 barrels/day & 75 land wells at 30 barrels/day would produce 9.9 million barrels/yr We can start producing 15 million barrels/yr by next year (!!!), by collecting oil from existing uncollected, non-edible oil seeds for $1.3b investment... so 1/15th just the exploration cost alone, and 1.5 times the output (+ at least 50-yr lifecycle (oilwells produce for abt 25 yrs))

India is accelerating a ~$20B deepwater oil drilling program led by ONGC under Mission Samudra Manthan. Plan targets ~100 wells/year (vs ~30 now) including ~25 deepwater wells annually to boost domestic output. Push aims to cut >80% oil import dependence amid Iran war supply risks. m.economictimes.com/industry/energ…

Are foreigners allowed to do anything in India? For a photoshoot, Julia Buruleva reportedly painted an elephant pink in Jaipur. Would this be allowed under law in any other country? At times it genuinely feels like rules here exist only for the common man, while others get away with anything. This double standard needs to be questioned.

Me too But again, both can happen simultaneously! And any oil wells that they find this year, will only start producing by 2031 or so (at the earliest) Whereas these seeds can be collected in the next 6 to 12 months & start producing in 2027! Crops like castor, can be grown & start producing, even more oil, by Navratri...

Great News from Kuno! India’s first-born cheetah, ‘Mukhi’, turns 3 today. Her journey, from a tiny cub to a confident mother stands as a powerful symbol of the success of Project Cheetah. This achievement paves the way for a new direction and growing confidence in MP's wildlife conservation efforts. #KunoNationalPark

Glad you are starting to understand Seed oils are also biofuels (like ethanol), yes While Ethanol is a great substitute for petrol (don't confuse it with petroleum), Seed oils can be used to produce all petroleum products (like aviation fuel, marine fuel, biodiesel, furnace oil etc) And the best part is we can get all the different versions at once: Make ethanol from sugarcane & biomass Collect existing uncollected seeds that go waste (& produce enough petroleum (not only petrol) equivalent for 3 days for the entire country) Eventually grow more oil seed trees And make biogas from suitable feedstock Also gasify lignin like biomass in biomass gasifiers All of these things are simultaneously doable with varying ROIs & efficiencies Point of the original post was that for a fraction of the cost of oil exploration, one can produce a lot more oil (that's a plug & play substitute for petroleum) very quickly!

@frictionangel What you are proposing is biofuel (like ethanol). That doesn’t count towards our strategic reserves or energy production. We already have enough capacity for producing biofuels from sugarcane etc

@ulmukdev Okay, you clearly don't understand scale so trying one last time 👇🏾 That's more than 1.5 billion dollars worth, being pumped into the rural economy, + adding to our energy security (~38% of our strategic reserves)!

@IndiaToday @vineetakumar_ No. Because none of the 3 people in the scene was (or temporarily identified as) a woman So the statement was factually correct It didn't say "only men do this" So why feel threatened?

There are > 450 tree species in India that were identified by the GoI in the 1950s, whose seeds are great for oil production We should be collecting from all of them! Simarouba is an African species It also works, but no reason to give it any more importance than the 450+ indigenous species Also, I'm personally vary of foreign species, seeing the way Jatropha was pushed as a miracle solution (it's just easier to confuse people if it's unfamiliar) There are no miracles / shortcuts But if we invest properly (at scale) in the supply chain for non-edible oil seeds in India, we can easily meet a very large portion of our petro-fuel requirements, for sure!

@frictionangel Thanks. This convo led me to another convo with grok and I learnt quite a bit. Thanks. Grok suggested that Simarouba (I hadn't heard of this tree before) can also be looked into.

3 days worth of fuel, for the entire country, is 0.8% or 0.008 of our petroleum needs, per year (trees produce these seeds every year) A drop in the ocean is approximately 5x10^(-26), or 0.00000000000000000000000005 of the ocean 15 million barrels of seed oil is therefore 1.6x10^23 times a drop in the ocean Hope this helps put things in perspective 😊

Yes. Jatropha yields well in coastal areas (high rainfall, very fertile land) So do most other plants 🤷🏾‍♀️ Yet, it was deliberately pushed as a crop for dry areas (British petroleum put in a lot of money to promote this, with the objective to make it fail) It doesn't do well in arid conditions Deliberate misinformation was spread to the extent that farmers were told that the plant doesn't even need water (forget fertiliser inputs) 🤦🏾‍♀️ Unfortunately, with a new species, our people often believe in miracles Naturally there was no yield whatsoever and this was used to dis seed oils in general, as a bioenergy source Which was the whole point of the misinformation campaign (cos India can easily ramp up production with just a few years of concentrated effort)

Well, nets, traps, and drones cost a lot of money too The yield per km2, of oil, works out to about 10 times more for oil seeds, compared to seaweed (~300 tons vs ~30 tons) Depends on the species of course but it's in this range Yes, one is on land and the other is in the sea But that makes everything more difficult/complicated at these scales

I think a person's time would be too valuable to use for collecting something as low value as this. That's why I thought of nets, traps and drones. Anyway, if you are interested in biodiesel, what do you think of seaweed cultivation. Much more concentrated and easier to harvest, wouldn't it be?
