Delivery apps didn’t just change how we eat. They changed how restaurants survive. Had dinner last night with a friend who runs a restaurant. He dropped a perspective that stuck with me. F&B prices haven’t risen because of inflation. They’ve risen because of the idea of convenience. This idea of Convenience is benefiting the companies, not customers or restaurant owners. Before food delivery apps, a dish that cost ₹100 at the restaurant had enough margin. People paid ₹10-15 as delivery charge, food was served hot & yet restaurants were profitable and busy. Post food delivery era: App commissions eat up 30–40% Add ads, promo campaigns, deductions, disputes The same dish is now ₹250, and yet restaurant margins haven’t improved. In fact, operations have become a nightmare. Look around, restaurants are opening and shutting down within 2 years. It’s not because food isn’t good. It’s because convenience is expensive, and the business model is broken. We’re now stuck in a race for revenue, while the real profits go to the platforms. We made a deal with the devil, and now the devil’s here to collect.
