I will say it again, we used GPT5.4 and Opus, and we were able to autonomously find zero-days in the Linux Kernel (in the last 3 weeks) Mythos is probably better at the task of finding potential issues in code, but imo the threshold for "scary" was reached in December or even earlier This is a great hype machine for Anthropic, especially that they plan to do IPO eoy I totally agree - this is not a new capability

I'm extremely unconvinced that Opus wouldn't have found that 27-year-old OpenBSD bug Mythos found if they spent $20k credits on it.

Google is basically saying: “We’ve cut the quantum resources needed to break Bitcoin’s encryption by 20x. We can now break it. We can prove it. We’re just not going to tell you how. We’ve slowed down research to give crypto a chance. You have until 2029 to figure out a solution. Good luck.”
nic carter@nic_carter

Many are wondering "what Google saw" that caused them to revise their post-quantum cryptography transition deadline to 2029 last week. It was this: research.google/blog/safeguard…

unpopular opinion: 16GB is plenty if software engineers actually cared about memory efficiency. chrome eating 4GB for 12 tabs is not a hardware problem its a software disgrace. docker consuming 2GB idle is not a feature its laziness. we live in an era where people optimize every single token to save $0.001 on API costs but happily ship electron apps that eat 500MB to display a todo list. if the industry treated RAM the way we treat inference compute - obsessively measuring every byte - 16GB would feel luxurious. the hardware isnt the problem, the software is @adxtyahq

never buy a 16GB RAM laptop in 2026. you’ll regret it within a week

Confirmed by Fortune: Opus 5: so good that it poses a danger. It's a massive leap from version 4.6, and it's so advanced that it poses a huge security risk. They'll roll it out slowly because they're concerned about unforeseen consequences, especially security risks. Besides Anthropic, OpenAI has also made similar announcements. As The Information recently reported, their upcoming model, "Spud," is an equally massive leap that will greatly accelerate the economy. In short, 2026 will be the year everything changes. OpenAI has already renamed its department "AGI Deployment."

Holy sh*t huge leak Claude Opus 5 "Mythos" leak: Claude Mythos, a new tier beyond Opus models, delivering major performance gains compared to Opus 4.6 in coding, academic reasoning, and cybersecurity, and signaling a step-change in frontier AI capability. The model is so powerful (and compute-intensive) that access will roll out slowly, starting with select cybersecurity partners to prepare for AI-driven exploits. This isn’t just a model release, it’s a preview of a new class of systems that could outpace current defenses and reshape how we think about AI risk and deployment. Take it with a grain of salt, @M1Astra is a very relaible source!
