Do you need someone to simply listen to you? I Listen. This is a gift I am giving to our COVID Conscious Community. I am a musician/vocalist so deep listening comes with the territory. I've also known the value when someone is able to just listen to me without trying to "fix" me. This has helped me to hear myself so I can solve my own problems. So, I've studied listening and taken several courses in how to listen to others. All that said, If/when you need a friend to just LISTEN to you, please feel free to DM me. I'm all ears.

@frogess33 Why thank you! Mind you, I then proceeded to stab myself in the thumb with the needle- the same thumb that I took a big chunk out of a week or so ago. I didn't want to bleed all over the mending project, so I quit after the first stitch. 😂 But I started something at least!

1. I used to think the LC community were like canaries in the coal mine, warning others of danger. But I was wrong. When the canaries got affected, the miners used to get the hell out of the mine. They didn't decide the canaries were defective, or unlucky, and carry on.

I'm not at all surprised by a 150,000 COVID death undercount. I suspect more than that. It's also going to be more undercounted as chronic and infectious disease sequela start to manifest themselves that were due to COVID get listed as other diseases. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

They’re not waiting for the science to be settled. They gave up. It was clear long ago that Covid was gonna mess us up. We said it was going to happen, it is now. It’s irrefutable. What’s amiss here isn’t the science, it’s the public’s general lack of emotional fortitude.

for covid conscious folks who get demoralized, thinking there’s no point to posting about covid for those who aren’t yet informed: in 2023, i was persuaded by the density of high-quality research y’all post here. and i’ve done my best to pay it forward. what you say matters.😷

Our respies spark fear, insecurity and resentment in bullies. They refuse the science, they refuse the protections and they refuse to be civil. But our troops may outnumber them someday.

This is a wonderful endeavor! I suggest that you also include antiviral nasal and throat sprays as well as a link to ongoing LC research for those who are interested and able to continue to learn about the best available research on SARS-CoV-2 and treatments. Thank you and your team for creating this!!!!!

We're looking to conduct a pilot run of a COVID Defense Kit to reduce the risk of reinfections among people in the U.S. with #LongCOVID. Do you have any suggestions? Our prior pilot was specifically for people with cancer and published in JAMA-NO (link in next). That COVID Defense Kit included the following: -An educational booklet on airborne transmission and multi-layered mitigation (this will be a public website soon) -5 FlowFlex rapid tests -50 N95/KN95 masks tailored to the sizes/needs of the individual and their household/family/visitor needs -2 DIY air purifiers We could mail the kits anywhere in the U.S. To track the data needed to yield generalizable knowledge for academic research and push for program scaling and eventual policy change, we had all participants do a brief survey pre-kit and then a 1-month follow-up survey on what from the kit they used, what they liked best, etc. We compensated $100 for that time, in addition to the kit being free (about a $220 value, so about $320 total). Possible improvements: -We could include a DIY fit-testing kit -We could include fewer masks initially and then send a 2nd batch once the "best" mask(s) get identified -For a 1-month follow-up, 5 rapid tests seemed sufficient, but open to ideas on that -The booklet is very mitigation focused. We could add info on fundamental coping strategies (this is not psychologizing LC, just acknowledging ostracism is stressful for anyone taking C19 seriously), provide suggestions for how to talk to family, friends, co-workers, etc. I'm not sure if any of this is needed or what the greatest need would be. As noted, we're working on a website, so it's not a big deal to have "too much" info, and people can use what they want. -We could do a longer follow-up window (3 or 6 months), but this gets tough in a pilot project that's a limited total time frame -Other ideas? Sorry if any of that seems offensive. I've mostly steered clear of substantive LC work because the important priorities are diagnostics and treatments; there's also a lot of incorrect psychologizing of LC. That's not my intent. I'm increasingly concerned about the impact of repeat infections 6+ years into this with a pessimistic near-term horizon on the treatment front. I'm also seeing in our real-world data that things like mask fit discernibly matter in terms of cumulative infections, even in the CC community. Thanks for any thoughts! 🙏

@frogess33 🫂🫂That sounds absolutely exhausting. I have been through situations like that several times, but when I was younger. And healthier. I really hope you can rest now! And that you get help in a timely manner even though there are likely many in need.

Aloha All ~ Perhaps you've heard about the catastrophic tropical storm that hit the Hawaiian islands. I live on Maui where at one point during the multi-day storm it rained over 20 inches in just 14 hours!!!! In the house where I live the torrential rain began pouring through the light fixtures in every room except , mercifully, the bedrooms. On the first day the ceiling of the garage, which is attached to the living room, caved in and water flooded into the living room. The next day the ceiling of the office caved in. The two people who own the house are elderly and disabled so it was all up to me. I spent every waking hour emptying buckets from under the light fixtures and holes in the ceilings, soaking up the water flooding into the living room with whatever absorbent fabric I could find (towels, bedspreads, curtains, throw rugs, etc). Once water logged I would haul them to the washer (unlike many in the islands we had power), where I would spin out the water, throw them into the dryer and around and around I'd go replacing soaking wet "ballast" with dry material. Fortunately, in emergencies I remain calm, cheerful, strategic and pragmatic. The storm has passed. We are still getting some rain, but no longer downpours. Many roads, homes and businesses were damaged. Fortunately there was no loss of life. I've cleaned and dried everything in the house, with the help of power fans. Insurance agents, roofers and mold abatement professionals have been contacted. We are in a very long line for help. Throughout this disaster I kept thinking that this is only the beginning of what we are all facing relative to the collapse of our ecosystems, cultures and governments. This is the new "normal". I am grateful for a lifetime of meditation training - of learning how to stay present with simply what is in the moment and working with this instead of wasting time complaining. This has been excellent training for the times we are living in. While on retreat with my teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, I purchased a calligraphy of his which is hanging on the wall in my room.
