Newly appointed Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner Dr G S Sameeran met chief minister C Joseph Vijay. He will be reporting to the MAWS dept headed by the chief minister. Who is the new GCC commissioner? A 2012-batch IAS officer Dr G S Sameeran is a medical graduate with an MBBS degree from Kerala University. He also holds a PG Diploma in Urban Environmental Management and Law from the National Law University, Delhi. He began his administrative career as assistant collector trainee in Thoothukudi district between 2013 and 2014 before serving as sub-collector and sub-divisional magistrate in Paramakudi from 2014 to 2017. He later served as project director of Palk Bay and additional director of fisheries from 2017 to 2018, and as director of fisheries from 2018 to 2020. He was district collector of Tenkasi from 2020 to 2021 and Coimbatore from 2021 to 2023. He also served as joint commissioner of the GCC from 2023 to 2024 before being appointed managing director of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in 2024. Prior to taking charge as GCC commissioner, he was serving as managing director of the TWAD Board from 2025 to 2026.
