A lot of people have been talking about the Virgil Off-White Jordan 1 re-release like they know exactly what should and shouldn’t happen with his work.
Personally, I do not think continuing to release a designer’s product automatically cheapens their legacy. In many ways, it can do the opposite. A lot of creatives dream of making something that lives beyond them. They want their work to be worn, seen, appreciated, and remembered. So when people call every posthumous release a money grab, I think that misses something deeper. Sometimes keeping the product alive is keeping the vision alive. Sometimes the best way to honor the work is to let it keep reaching people.
Virgil’s impact was always bigger than one release. His work meant something because it moved people, shifted culture, and made design feel accessible in a new way. Letting that work continue to exist in the world does not always take away from the legacy. Sometimes it is the legacy.
