I agree that music (all art really) isn't about return on investment, but I do think less and less people care about this stuff.

The sheer number of “I’m a real musician, I swear!” posts on r/Suno is pretty sad, honestly. Other music subreddits are just people sharing tips on how to make dope beats, but the main effect of making AI music seems to be deep existential anxiety of the value of your work.

Vorig jaar woonde ik 3 maanden in de Socialistische Republiek Vietnam, geleid door de communistische partij sinds 1976. Mijn hele leven heb ik niets moeten weten van doorgedreven vormen van socialisme of communisme. In mijn ogen bedreigt zo'n experiment net menselijke vooruitgang en vernietigt het welvaart over de langere termijn. Maar het was niet Vietnam dat communistisch was... Hoe raar was het voor mij om vorig jaar erachter te komen dat België economisch en fiscaal gezien dichter bij een communistisch/socialistisch systeem staat dan Vietnam. België heeft een veel uitgebreider en systematischer herverdelingsmechanisme door hoge sociale uitgaven en progressieve belastingen. De belastingen liggen in België zelfs hoger dan in Vietnam, een land dat onder leiding staat van een communistische partij. Vietnam heeft een andere strategie en zet meer in op armoedebestrijding via economische groei dan via inkomensherverdeling. En opvallend: daarom zie je een grotere inkomensongelijkheid dan in België en dat onder communistisch beleid. De reden? Liberalisering Wat we soms vergeten is dat Vietnam decennia heeft ingezet op liberale hervormingen onder een communistische partij. Door de snelle economische groei die is ingezet sinds de liberale hervormingen van 1986 is men fors beginnen te groeien in export en buitenlandse investeringen. In de informele sector is er ook een veel meer flexibelere arbeidsmarkt dan bij ons. En uiteraard, op sommige vlakken zie je nog duidelijk de staat spelen. In sommige sectoren domineren staatsbedrijven en kan je als ondernemer niet concurreren. Maar kijk je op vlak van fiscaal beleid, de welvaartstaat, belastingen en herverdeling, dan is het België dat vandaag dichter bij een socialistische/communistische staat ligt dan Vietnam. Vorig jaar was voor mij een grote eye-opener. De ideologie achter een partij is vaak gewoon een tool met als doel om de controle te hebben over de maatschappij. Maar het daadwerkelijke beleid hoeft niet hetzelfde te zijn. Een liberaal voert vaak geen liberaal programma uit, dat weet ik sinds ik in België woon. Maar dat een socialist of communist in Vietnam geen socialist of communist is, dat leerde ik pas toen ik het zelf ervaarde. Uit het dagboek van een digitale nomade.
