The 1st week of campaigning for fairer vet prices has made some progress. I told an MP I would collect accounts of people paying ridiculously high vet bills. Post them here or email info@fursfair.com

Had an encouraging meeting today with Rory Demel, representing @JohannaBaxter. She's keen to see improved standards and fairer prices for pet owners. I shall be keeping in touch with ideas and updates for the campaign.

@jasemonkey @daveallen66 @marcrileydj @fursfair Came back from the vets today and Ron needs a biopsy and bloods taking again (had them taken 4 weeks ago) because they've no idea why he's losing massive chunks of his skin. I estimate another £1,000 coming.

@jasemonkey My rescue had 8 teeth out this week - roughly £100 per tooth 🦷 plus sundries. Insurance won’t cover it. Checked - my local family run vets was taken over last year by a European wide company - they’ve got you by the shirt n curlies grrr

@jasemonkey They have gone mega-corporate. We have already experienced that here from US consolidation in Ontario. Luckily I have found a vet near my cottage at Bancroft, and those bills are half of what I pay in the city.

@jasemonkey Took our sausage the vet last week for annual vaccine. £64. Vet gave him kennel cough then his anal glands a squeezing that we didn’t ask for. Got to reception to pay. £128 👍🏻 They don’t tell you anything costs extra they just do it and charge. Scammers

@marcrileydj @fursfair I've spent £2,000 on my dog in the past month, I don't make that kind of money to spend but there's no other option. Still ongoing!

@marcrileydj @fursfair Totally agree Marc. My little Alfie, 10 years, has an ongoing situation...will soon exceed what my yearly pet insurance contributions to cost limit is. Vets know you will do anything for your pet, so exploit it.

@marcrileydj @fursfair My mum's vet is now owned by the hedge funds, reception staff there tried to upsell various unnecessary tests when her perfectly healthy puppy was in getting neutered. It's so unethical and she found it distressing too. Vets badly need proper pricing regulation.

@BlackandBlue73 @jasemonkey What is totally wrong is the mark up on reselling prescription medicine, they have ordered it and stored it , for a 200/300 mark up - that is so wrong

@marcrileydj @jasemonkey I was in Spain in April. My dog needed an emergency appointment at 2:30 am. Dislocated leg. The vet opened up just for us, x-rays, two injections, two lots of meds and then arranging an operation, €239! The operation was under €800, including all follow ups.

I've got the first 200 signatures but we need many 1000s. I'm not giving up on this. The pets deserve better. chng.it/YmLjtQTVnW

This is great Jase. @fursfair LONG OVERDUE. Emotional blackmail and big money has turned the Veterinary business into a disgrace . I remember one vet tried to prize a £400 op out of my dad on his 15 year old dog coz it ‘might’ get cancer from an ailment. I had a word. 🤬
