Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger@Schwarzenegger·
I don’t really do endorsements. I’m not shy about sharing my views, but I hate politics and don’t trust most politicians. I also understand that people want to hear from me because I am not just a celebrity, I am a former Republican Governor. My time as Governor taught me to love policy and ignore politics. I’m proud of the work I did to help clean up our air, create jobs, balance the budget, make the biggest infrastructure investment in state history, and take power from the politicians and give it back to the people when it comes to our redistricting process and our primaries in California. That’s policy. It requires working with the other side, not insulting them to win your next election, and I know it isn’t sexy to most people, but I love it when I can help make people’s lives better with policies, like I still do through my institute at USC, where we fight for clean air and stripping the power from the politicians who rig the system against the people. Let me be honest with you: I don’t like either party right now. My Republicans have forgotten the beauty of the free market, driven up deficits, and rejected election results. Democrats aren’t any better at dealing with deficits, and I worry about their local policies hurting our cities with increased crime. It is probably not a surprise that I hate politics more than ever, which, if you are a normal person who isn’t addicted to this crap, you probably understand. I want to tune out. But I can’t. Because rejecting the results of an election is as un-American as it gets. To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious. And I will always be an American before I am a Republican. That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. I’m sharing it with all of you because I think there are a lot of you who feel like I do. You don’t recognize our country. And you are right to be furious. For decades, we’ve talked about the national debt. For decades, we’ve talked about comprehensive immigration reform that secures the border while fixing our broken immigration system. And Washington does nothing. The problems just keep rolling, and we all keep getting angrier, because the only people that benefit from problems aren’t you, the people. The only people that benefit from this crap are the politicians who prefer having talking points to win elections to the public service that will make Americans’ lives better. It is a just game to them. But it is life for my fellow Americans. We should be pissed! But a candidate who won’t respect your vote unless it is for him, a candidate who will send his followers to storm the Capitol while he watches with a Diet Coke, a candidate who has shown no ability to work to pass any policy besides a tax cut that helped his donors and other rich people like me but helped no one else else, a candidate who thinks Americans who disagree with him are the bigger enemies than China, Russia, or North Korea - that won’t solve our problems. It will just be four more years of bullshit with no results that makes us angrier and angrier, more divided, and more hateful. We need to close the door on this chapter of American history, and I know that former President Trump won’t do that. He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger. That’s enough reason for me to share my vote with all of you. I want to move forward as a country, and even though I have plenty of disagreements with their platform, I think the only way to do that is with Harris and Walz. Vote this week. Turn the page and put this junk behind us. And even if you disagree with me, vote, because that’s what we do as Americans. vote.org

Another excellent point from @cjasonmaier. While the proposal to take a “Bitcoin first” approach with @KamalaHarris @KamalaHQ @TheDemocrats @DNC @USProgressives may sound antagonistic to crypto, there’s another, more fair way to understand this. We’ve got to be frank that there are a lot of scams in crypto. Most notably pump and dump schemes propped up by venture capital firms AND sketchy crypto exchange schemes like FTX, Celcius and others. While there are some niche business and organizational use cases we can consider among crypto, the scams and risks pose huge reputational risk for #Bitcoin because far too many people incorrectly lump Bitcoin in with crypto. We need to help make clear the unique qualities and progressive impact of Bitcoin around the world when it comes to financial inclusion, community empowerment, human rights, and climate action (eg, methane mitigation, scaling up renewable energy production). We need to lead with these and clearly distinguish this positive potential from all of the unfortunate crypto scams and crypto exchange shenanigans. Then, create space for positive crypto and crypto exchanges to rise and shine based on true proof of value and use cases. So, Bitcoin first since that’s where the proof of value and impact is, and then follow with space for other crypto to demonstrate their potential niche use cases.

Rebuttal of New IMF report on Bitcoin mining emissions IMF report says "Carbon Emissions from AI and Cryto are surging" then goes on to a detailed report on how regulators should impose "cryptocarbon" tax. Rebuttal: Firstly, Bitcion advocates everywhere should pause to reflect on the significance of this moment. With the scientific consensus (9 of the last 10 peer reviewed articles) and mainstream journalism now concluding that Bitcoin mining has significant environmental benefits, those who stand to lose most from mainstream adoption of Bitcoin (IMF, Central Banks) are needing to resort to direct attack-pieces. Here's a breakdown of why the IMF report is at best poorly researched, at worst propoganda. imf.org/en/Blogs/Artic… 1. Rhetorical technique: "guilt by association". Let's say you want to criticize Larry, but the problem is that Larry is a good citizen. No problem, you find that Ben, a person who has the same day job and is the same age as Larry, is a criminal. Now you don't have to prove that Larry is of unsound character, all you need to do is say "Ben is a criminal, and Larry is just like Ben" That's what the IMF report does. It's opening line even says "What do crypto assets and artificial intelligence have in common? Both are power-hungry". Straight out of the guilt-by-association playbook. There is no contemporary evidence in the report that Bitcoin mining produces a rising amount of carbon emissions, but plenty of evidence that AI datacenters' carbon emissions are rising. So AI datacenters serves a purpose, but as we will see later, they are really interested in attacking Larry. Ben is just the pawn in a bigger chess-game. So the article says "AI datacenter emissions are rising, and Bitcoin is just like AI" The technique is effective and will fool some people. But its also factually incorrect. BPI has already debunked the myth that AI datacenters and Bitcoin mining centers are comparable in a detailed report. 👇 cdn.prod.website-files.com/627aa615676bdd… Further, Rhodes et al showed back in 2021 that flexible datacenters such as Bitcoin mining had a net decarbonizing impact on grids, whereas inflexible datacenters such as AI had a net carbonizing impact. 👇 da-ri.org/science-hub 2. Make apples for oranges comparison Today, data from a variety of independent sources including the Digital Assets Research Institute shows that as price and hashrate grows, Bitcoin mining emissions have not grown 👇 x.com/dari_org/statu… The IMFs own data sources reveal the same thing. In fact, their data shows that by 2027, crypto's share of global electricity use, and its share of global CO2 emissions will have decreased, while for AI, both will increase. Hmmm, that was inconvenient! Doesn't really support the thesis they wanted to support which was that Bitcoin was bad for the environment, just like AI. So what did they do? They created another bar called "high" which indicated the maximum possible range of 2027 projections so that crypto's contribution looked visually higher than it's present-day share. Where did the "high" estimate come from? Cambridge's hypothetical model of "what would happen if every bitcoin mining operation used coal" (something no industry does, and something Bitcoin mining uses less of than any other industry, and a fuel source Bitcoin mining is moving away from faster than any industry) See their image from the report below. They then go on to ask the question in a full length report "Cryptocarbon: How much tax is the corrective tax" 👇 imf.org/en/Publication… If the authors were seriously concerned for the environment, they would have looked at the data and written the paper. "AICarbon: How much tax is the corrective tax". Did they also write this paper? No. 3. Let's look at their detailed report. 11 mentions of the work of Alex de Vries, and a mention of Mora et al. Someone please tell the authors that not even GreenpeaceUSA cite Mora et al's work any more, which was triply-debunked within months of him writing it. Further, the work of de Vries has been widely discredited, including this peer review article by Sai and Vranken. 👇 sciencedirect.com/science/articl… The paper goes on to quote Cambridge's emissions and energy figures, despite the fact it is widely known (and stated on Cambridge's website) that theire model is no longer current, as it uses data from 2022. Until we get intellectual honesty from the IMF, apples-for-apples comparisons, eshewing of already-discredited research, use of contemporary datasets, and an acknowledgement that the scientific consensus shows predominantly positive environmental externalities from Bitcoin mining, any reports from this institute should be disregarded as being of a low research-standard; unusable to policymakers and regulators.

GM, FATF has issued a new report claiming that „Virtual Assets are increasingly used by terrorist groups“. The only problem: Their statement is directly contradicted in their own report and lacks any corroborating, verifiable data to back it up, while highlighting that *a lack of data* – particularly for peer-to-peer transactions – remains a main challenge to FATF compliance. Of course, that doesn’t stop FATF from recommending that all jurisdictions „act rapidly“ to implement the FATF Travel Rule, which requires ‚VASPs‘ and financial institutions to „obtain, hold, and transmit specific originator and beneficiary information immediately and securely when transferring Virtual Assets“ to address the „emerging and increasing risks“ which, again, cannot be corroborated or verified by the report itself. It is unbelievable that an organization with *such* low standards is being taken seriously at all, never mind allowed to guide the implementation of AML/CFT around the world. Full Story:

Those of you who have paid close attention to Trump's speech at Bitcoin 2024 may have noticed that the former President – accidentally or intentionally – appears to have given away a lot more on his plans for the future of Bitcoin than meets the eye. Despite his assurances to protect open source development and self-custody in the US, Trump is first and foremost a national security president, highlighted by his remarks on terrorism and immigration. A loosening of AML/CFT laws, which currently see several open-source developers under indictment, seems unlikely (though a democrat law enforcement officer in the White House may arguably not do us any better). During Trump's past presidency, the US passed the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020 as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, which increased penalties for AML/CFT offenses and established beneficial ownership requirements for LLCs to FinCEN. While Trump vetoed the NDAA, it appears that he did not do so due to the AMLA2020, but rather because the NDAA kept Trump from his crusade to repeal Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act, which protects Internet Service Providers from liability for information hosted and transmitted. According to Trump, Section 230 is a "national security risk" which "will make our intelligence virtually impossible to conduct". If you had hoped that a Trump presidency would reduce the risks of developers being held liable for "illicit activity", you may do best in thinking again – "Broadcasting" 'illicit transactions' is precisely what Samourai Wallet currently stands accused of, which would hardly be arguable under the striking of Section 230. Between incoherent ramblings on god, AI, and electric cars, Trump essentially used his 50-minute speaking slot to introduce The Bitcoin Dollar between the lines: a CBDC alternative to expand US hegemony beyond the petrodollar system directly into consumer wallets across the planet. Don't forget that the vast space between your ears is intelligence's field of play. For Trump, Bitcoin is merely a tool to "extend the dominance of the US Dollar to new frontiers all around the world", and if his speech showed us anything, its that you are nothing more than another pawn at the end of the identity politics chessboard, where a banner hangs that reads: Congratulations, you’ve been played. This Rage Weekly is out featuring a full opinion on the much anticipated Trump speech at Bitcoin 2024. Subscribe for free or read all issues online 👇

Bookmark this tweet. In five years we will look back at this episode of Donald Trump and the Republican Party feigning support for #Bitcoin, and all of the people lining up behind @TheBitcoinConf platforming of this “package” as one of the biggest favours for the values and vision and expressed by @USProgressives (which I distinguish from @TheDemocrats). Bitcoin is a network, money and tool that is gradually freeing individuals and communities around the world from the shackles of global debt-money structures and systems. Bitcoin is disrupting narratives and binary political and social frameworks. When Bitcoin was created and launched, it was done with the understanding that, ultimately, human self-interest, ego, fallibility would remain motivating forces for many (most?) people adopting and using Bitcoin. Human, all too human, we remain. It is, of course, this human fallibility which is causing many Bitcoin adopters in the U.S. (with some allies elsewhere) to promote freedom, moral and spiritual renewal, and progress, on the one hand, while on the other hand investing hope for these into a character (Trump) who is the archetype of moral and spiritual decay, decadence, opportunism, and psychopathy. The cognitive dissonance is piercing. Yet, this episode will raise the visibility of Bitcoin; it will contribute to adoption (albeit skewed); and it will shift that Overton Window surrounding Bitcoin’s use and role globally. In so doing, however, it will advance a tool and movement globally that is disrupting the Imperial project perpetuated by the United States and it will extol the virtues of inclusion, equity and fairness that forms the basis of the @USProgressives program, but which they are still not prepared to effectively bring forward, captive as they are to strategy hinged on social and cultural analysis and bankrupt in political economy. The shift will happen, but not just yet apparently. In the long run, the opportunistic and highly individualistic support by Trump, Republican Party, and Bitcoin affiliates will seed and fertilize the ground for the next stage of this evolutionary process for/with Bitcoin; one that is fundamentally more inclusive, communitarian, and global/humanitarian. In the meantime, those of us who can see a bit further into the future must hold our noses and endure the stench of the manure. However, I do firmly believe it will be worth it. Love and peace, y’all! 🧡

A lot of people seem to see voting for trump as „the lesser of two evils“, wondering what else they can do to protect their bitcoin from regulatory overreach. But the US isnt „the greatest country in the world“ because of its presidents - if anything, it is *in spite* of them. The US government consists of more than the presidency. It has a fairly well working judiciary in place, which exists to help the people hold the government accountable and ensure that no laws will be passed infringing on your rights (doesnt always work but often does). From a legal perspective, the US is a great place for bitcoin due to its laws around free speech and enterprise, which enshrines the use and ownership of bitcoin not just as property, but as a tool for communication. The problem ergo isnt the politicians. The problem is your own complete political apathy when it comes to anything other than elections. If you want to protect your bitcoin, stop spending millions of dollars and thousands of hours supporting political candidates who will say anything to get your votes only to drop you like a hot potato once elected. Instead, use that time and money to boycott and organize - its what the system was designed for. There are enough grounds to sue the US government, private citizens, companies and institutions if the right to own, use or interact with bitcoin was to be infringed, and its how the majority of civil liberties were established. Ending racial segregation in schools didnt happen by presidential decree - it happend through Brown vs. Board of Education. The right to an attorney: Gideon v Wrainwright. Interracial marriage: Loving v Virginia. Burning of the US flag as speech: Texas v Johnson. Right to abortion (though now overturned): Roe v Wade. Same sex marriage: Obergefell v Hodges. Porn on the internet: ACLU v Reno. You have rights, and you need to stop thinking that you are powerless without some babbling politician to enforce them. Spend the time and money on grassroots organizing, which is much more in the spirit of bitcoin anway. Politicians hate this trick.
