@RyanCoetzee The white population at the Cape was quite small in the 17th century, that’s why you often find certain “founding women” showing up multiple times in your tree. It’s known as extreme pedigree collapse. The same person appears multiple times on your family tree.

I did a DNA test via Ancestry. Largely unsurprising - lots of Europe, and a smattering of Africa (2% “Southern Bantu”, 1% “Eastern Bantu”, 1% Khoi-San, 1% “Central Nigeria”.) What I didn’t see coming was the 3% from the Philippines! Who, how, I wonder? And then there’s the 2% from Bengal, although my sister knew the story there: “Ansela van Bengale” was brought to the Cape and sold to Van Riebeeck, who sold her and her 3 children in 1662 to a man who freed her in 1666. She was the third slave to be freed in the Cape. She then married a Dutch farmer - a Basson. She appears to have been married 3 times in her life and bore at least 11 children. She bought and owned a few slaves herself, and ended her life in 1720 with two properties, including a farm in Groot Drankenstein. Anyway, she was an ancestor of my maternal grandfather (and doubtless hundreds of thousands of other South Africans.) What does it all mean? Not much really. Largely interesting for the insight it provides into population movements and some aspects of history.

My most popular Sora video was “an Elaborate regency romance where everyone is wearing a live duck for a hat (each duck is also wearing a hat), a llama plays a flute, prestige drama” I am not sure why OpenAI has decided their compute has more valuable uses. Really a mystery.
