The Second Son is out with beta readers. I'm expecting nothing back for a couple of weeks, so I'll turn to the short story series, and closing out TTRPG commitments before the rewrites on Son hit me. #amwriting

@jzpitts In my other life, I'm a competitive powerlifter. It costs me for the gym membership, federation dues, entry fees, kit, coaching, nutrition, travel, and accommodation. I still do it. I still get out there and lift. I might break a record or win a title. I won't make any money.

Stats for indie authors can be pretty bleak. What makes you persist, despite the odds?

@Kacey_Combs I'm about to hand over book two for a dev edit review. My inciting incident is about 40 pages in. Up to there, we have setup. I believe it's still engaging, interesting, and valuable. As you'd expect, things that happen or are said in those pages inform the rest of the book.

Can we talk about the inciting incident? I hear so much talk of having it in the first 10-15 pages. What if there are other subplots and tension in the first few chapters? Can the main inciting incident occur around page 30? 40? 50? What do we love and hate about this? #Writers #Authors #WritingCommmunity #Editors #Agents

The Second Son has been through my edit passes and drafts. It's now time to hand it over for a dev edit review (already booked, calm down, don't get excited) and get the feedback it needs to take it to the next level. I still have the aggressive target of publishing in July.

I've made it through to chapter 19 of my planned red-pen edits. Chapter 19... is a rewrite job. I recognised it on the red pen read through, and just left myself the note to rewrite it. That cheque is now due! Let's do this! After a break for other projects... #AmWriting

Done nearly 160 pages of edits on Faust book two, The Second Son. Working hard to get this draft where I need it ahead of a dev edit review. I know I'm biased, but it's a cracking read... Tighter that The First Folio. And with arguably more to say. #AmWriting

@L_Eve_Gale It looks like there are some hybrid publishers you can trust and some you can't. Some could be good partners who provide all the services you need/want in one place, rather than you sourcing them individually. Others... Just want your money and don't care about your book.

The publisher offered me a publishing contract... a hybrid contract. How is this better or more profitable than self-publishing? I don't understand... Has anyone had this happen? Does anyone know anything?

@AuthorGoodwin At a work event yesterday, someone came up to me to tell me that my novel had been recommended in our company neurodiversity support group. Which is lovely, and shocking, and gratifying, and yet also embarrassing and mortifying for an introvert, all at once. But I'll take that.

Does anyone wish people they meet would show more interest in their writing? I'm thinking of getting a t-shirt made that says: "ask me about my books!" #writerslife

@jtmwrites YouTube... Honestly, YouTube. I knew I wanted to publish through Amazon, but I also wanted to publish more widely, so learned how to do that through YT. There are some great resources out there on the mechanics of making it happen. I'm now happily published.

Edit pass on the 20k short story done. That's episode four of The Misadventures of Doctor Faustus in the bag... For now. It's released on April 1st, so I'll let it sit for a week and then take another pass just to see if I can tighten and/or lift it.

I received my favourite review so far for The First Folio. "Vulgarity in the first paragraph? I don't read 'stuff' like that. I don't talk like that. I don't want to be around people who do. Bad book! I recommend a garbage can!" I mean, it's not unfair...

Good news writer friends. I fixed my short story! It's episode four of a series and I loved the ending. Only, I'd used the same ending for episode three! It looked different, but it was essentially the same escalation, and similar resolution. But now rewritten. And breathe.

@SDDonovan I used Scrivener, to be honest. It's lacking a little, but I think that's a combination of the tool and my skill level. All books in their series will be the same now, but I'll branch out for different series/books.

Did you format the interior of your book by yourself or pay someone to help you with it?

@Gabino_Iglesias I use Scrivener and Aeon Timeline. Timeline helps me make sure events mesh logically together. And I've shaped Scrivener to the way that I want to work, and that helps me with the plotting and outline, all the way through the writing, to the editing.
