My school only had one Film teacher so he basically designed the entire course. I didn't realise until later but he was basically trying to make us all into leftists. We studied Scarface (both versions), Battle of Algiers, La Haine, Ken Loach (Wind that Shakes the Barley + more)

@gackjibbs @TheChrisLambert After Hours is a neo-noir black comedy. And neo-noir is different from noir. Neo-noir subverts classic tropes of film noir, and adapts tropes from the 40s and 50s into modern cinema. They usually have vibrant colours, high-contrast, graphic violence, sexuality, thematic motifs

“Scorsese has never done a single genre outside NY Crime, historical crime or catholic adjacent.” -Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (Romcom) -New York, New York (musical) -Raging Bull (sports biopic) -King of Comedy (black comedy) -After Hours (neo-noir) -Cape Fear (thriller) -Age of Innocence (historical romance) -Kundun (biopic) -Bringing Out the Dead (drama) -The Aviator (biopic) -Shutter Island (psychological thriller/neo-noir) -Hugo (adventure) His new movie, What Happens at Night, is a gothic.

Nolan is inherently a non violent filmmaker. It’s that simple. All the semantics is bullshit. He could make Taxi Driver but it wouldn’t be as violent or as unnerving as Scorsese. Scorsese has never done a single genre outside NY Crime, historical crime or catholic adjacent.

@edwardbrgr even in the 2010s to go from Hugo to TWOWS to Silence to The Irishman. TWOWS and Irishman are both technically crime films but couldnt be more tonally different. Nolan can make a ww2 movie and a sci fi movie back to back but they feel way more similar in tone despite their genres

Martin Scorsese clears this, btw. I’d argue his versatility is extremely underappreciated just because his best and most talked-about movies are mostly the crime/gangster ones. But the dude made The Age of Innocence, which is a period romance, Hugo, which is a heartfelt family adventure, and even Silence, a deeply spiritual historical drama and that’s saying a lot for someone so often boxed into one genre.
jimmy@jimsweatshirt

i think it’s more interesting comparing their filmography’s when they were both the same age

@TheChrisLambert @jgvisions00 hugo is not animated lol what??? banger regardless and obviously scorsese is more versitile than nolan even like tonally. I think people like this just value sci fi or spectacle movies over other genres so to them nolan will always be better because marty aint interested in that

You said he had only made movies in 3 genres. I was just pointing out the other genres. They’re not sub genres. They’re clearly different genres. Hugo is an animated film. Killers of the Flower Moon is a western. And so Scorsese has made films in like 12 genres. Does he have to make a fantasy or sci-fi film? Nolan hasn’t made a comedy. He hasn’t made a horror film. Or a musical. Or a romance. Or a sports film. Most great filmmakers have genres they never touch.

Since everyone is loving my correct LOTR takes - stop your rewatch of Fellowship and throw this on instead. Better movie and I am not joking

It’s so wild how he had this magical 2 year run with Mud/Magic Mike/Eastbound/Wolf Of Wall Street/True Detextive/Interstellar and honestly just gave up and started doing Cadillac commercials. Really depressing career

#MatthewMcConaughey predicts to #TimothéeChalamet that AI actors will crash the #Oscars: “It’s damn sure going to infiltrate our category.” “Will we, in five years, have Best AI Film? Best AI Actor? Maybe. I think it could become another category. I’m not sure. It’s going to be in front of us in ways we don’t even see.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lGVAd

@Chaysud1986 @pcbths @Bollinger_69 @WwwLukethoughts Why not just not greenlight the film to begin with? People would’ve read the script. Why not cancel during filming? It is also a pretty close adaptation of a book from the 1920s. Why didn’t “they” kill the author!

Everyone keeps leaving out the fact that the screenplay is written by Vernon Chatman (Xavier Renegade Angel, Wonder Showzen, The Shivering Truth). He might not have as big of a name as the others involved, but he's a HUGE reason why I'm excited for this project.

‘South Park’ creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s new film, produced by Kendrick Lamar, is said to be “outrageously funny” The film follows a young Black man who grows nervous of his job performing as a slave at a plantation attraction, though insiders say the logline may be outdated.
