I can’t stress how important it is to understand that this is the result of a deep structural flaw in the Indian Constitution’s design, and not just a temporary “aberration.” Brief thread. 👇🏼

Is that George Sorel between Engels and Lenin? Is there any thought behind CPI(M) invoking Sorel? Or is the invocation of this controversial figure, often associated with anarcho-syndicalism and revolutionary violence, simply a case of importing the wrong graphic?

Dear national spokesperson 'Anna' DMK @KovaiSathyan , here is Anna on Brahmanism/பார்ப்பனியம்: Dravida Nadu, 08-09-1946: "பார்ப்பனியம் ஒழிந்தாலொழிய பாமரன் பாராளும் காலம் பிறவாது"/ "Unless Brahmanism is abolished, the common man cannot rule the world. "

பார்ப்பனீயம் என்று ஒன்று கிடையாது. A word coined with ill intent for religious gains and to spread hatred.

@bainjal Islamophobia is racism because it first racialises Muslims. But please tell us why are you more outraged by how Islamophobia is condemned rather than Islamophobia itself?

@sirfaditya Thanks for this! I think it is also noteworthy that irony has become so pervasive in the way we talk about things like love and justice at the same time as it has become impossible to publicly maintain any sense of irony about things like nationalism, state and government.

Repurposing horseshoe theory in big 2026 that too in service of AIADMK, which former Hindu reader's editor A. S. Panneerselvam rightly remarked functions as the Thevar party in the Thevar region, Gounder party in the gounder region and Vanniyar party in the vanniyar region. Sad.
PS@dostoevesque

The problem with trying to sell a party like AIADMK to a younger generation is that AIADMK’s biggest strength is also its biggest weakness in the modern political context. It is fundamentally a maintenance party, not a movement party. It is built around governance, welfare delivery, and political pragmatism. That kind of politics is deeply valuable in real life, but it doesn’t produce the emotional high that younger voters increasingly crave. Selling a balanced, non-polarizing approach is inherently tougher in an era where younger voters who have their heads buried deep into social media often crave bold, transformative narratives ideas that feel like they're part of a revolution or something that possess a direct challenge to the status quo. DMK sells Social Revolution. Their narrative is "We are breaking the chains of the past." This appeals to the youth’s desire for justice and change. It feels like a movement. BJP: Sells Cultural/National Revolution. Their narrative is 'We are reclaiming glory.; This appeals to the youth’s desire for identity and pride. It feels like a crusade. They may appear like opposites on the surface, but structurally they sell the exact same political product. There was a glorious past (a golden age, a pure identity, a natural order). Something went wrong (decline, humiliation, loss of dignity). Outsiders did it (invaders, oppressors, colonisers, North Indians, Brahmins, missionaries, Mughals, etc.). We must restore what was stolen (revival, self-respect, cultural renaissance). You are part of a historic mission (you’re not just voting, you’re 'fighting back'). That template is unbelievably powerful because it gives people three things at once: meaning, belonging, and moral clarity. And this is also why AIADMK sits awkwardly between them. Because AIADMK doesn’t thrive on historical grievance. It thrives on present-day delivery. It doesn’t need to keep people angry. It needs to keep them stable. This is the unique spot AIADMK occupies. They are socially conservative (respect for tradition, temples, hierarchy) without being religious fundamentalists. This used to be the default setting of the Tamil voter. However, the polarization has forced people to pick a side: You are either Rationalist/Atheist (DMK alignment) or Hindu Nationalist(BJP alinment) Because the present generation is not growing up in a world where stability feels like an achievement. they don’t want a party like ADMK that says let’s keep things balanced. They want a party that says 'this is why you are suffering, and here is the villain, and here is how we destroy the villain.'

Today would have been @davidgraeber 's 65th birthday. Wherever you are, may you be surrounded by freedom and сare. When people say about the dead "he's always with us," for me that turned out to be true. David died so sudden, and we had so sincerely planned to live until 85 (at least), then medicine would figure something out and we'd live another 30 years, and we'd see from there. It seemed like eternity together stretched ahead. And David was the best of all possible partners for eternity. I'm a very stubborn and I don't intend to abandon my plans, especially since they were our shared plans with @davidgraeber . So one could say I've spent the past six years exploring different possibilities for eternal life. Here's what I've understood so far: You can continue loving someone who has died. My therapist thinks this destroys me. But I think norms and rituals are given to us to be changed. Love is beautiful. Real love is rare, hard to find, and it's completely natural to hold onto that. The other thing: it looks like monuments are almost always gravestones. Immortality is different for everyone, but for David, a wanderer and explorer who lived through friendships, it had to be collective. When I think about collective immortality, it's about carnival and library. Not a monument, not a grave, but a living, constantly growing environment, an architecture that can include new people and shatter time. Carnival and library, as peaks of collectivity, are above all the opposite of war and authoritarian political structures. Parties and wars demand uniformity and discipline. Carnivals and libraries have their own architecture, but one built around searching for discoveries, encounters, surprises, possibly unkind and dangerous ones, rather than a fixed march toward pre-approved happiness. In the photo is David's birthday five years ago, when I was living in Michael Hudson's tiny studio during Covid, completely alone, barely leaving the house.

A bonafide idiot who pretended to be an anti-caste radical comes out and betrays his casteist arrogance. Even if he stands alone, Thiruma will remain a strong anti-caste voice. Even with a thousand sycophants behind him, Aadhav Arjuna will always be an absolute nobody.

@tnrags @vetri_vimalan What rubbish. Brahmanism is not some abstract marker of privilege. Ambedkar defines it very precisely. He calls it the negation of liberty, equality and fraternity. He says its soul lies in graded inequality. Do not use such precisely defined consequential words as you wish.
