Mascarin Peak is South Africa's only active volcano 🌋 and is about 200 m taller than Table Mountain. It's on Marion Island - roughly 2300 km south-east of Cape Town. Administratively, is falls within Ward 115 of the City of Cape Town. #randomfactfriday 💡

@geordinhl @StueyMax Maclear’s Beacon on Table Mountain is 1086m while Mascarin Peak is 1242m. So Table Mountain is 156m shorter. Both have good views though.

So this is actually the biggest mountain in Cape Town?? Well this is awkward. 🤷‍♂️

@StueyMax The last full-scale eruption occurred on the west coast of Marion Island in 1980 and a minor event occurred in 2004.
