Weird kneejerk backlash to the original tweet. Anyone who has ever spent an entire day shopping in Delhi’s old markets knows how tough it can be. Such jobs may not be skilled but they are by no means “slavery”.

Not slavery, Shiv. These are market solutions for new-age problems. Rapid nuclearization of families, growing number of elderly, working women etc. There is dignity to such work. It’s also a pathway to more organized, skilled work.

Quite unfair to hound the whole family in this way. Media could open up so many debates pertaining to this particular case but somehow it’s always just more convenient to chase sensationalism disguised as activism. *This* is just as sad as the tragedy itself.

Podcasts have ruined the art of interviewing. It's not about asking questions one after another or having a mundane conversation about someone's work/life but reaching for genuine insights about how they look at reality. That is where the art is, not the lights, set-up, & mics.

This is very true. So much around us, of which content is only a small aspect, is designed to disorient us into chaos. Beauty is recognised in form of harmony, alignment, and effervescence. That is important for what we now call nervous system regulation.

What’s noteworthy about this case is that both of the families are well-educated, financially well-off, and can argue their case convincingly. Despite the media trial & SM noise, what is clear is that the Indian society has *no idea* what it wants, how it wants, & why it wants.

I was so horrified by the 'press confereence' of Giribala Singh, former Judge & mother in law of Twisha Shama- now an accused in a dowry death case, that i had to interview her and confront her with some direct questions 1. Where is her son? as an officer of the law- and her son is a lawyer - why is he absconding and will she urge him to surrender or is she hiding him? 2. Did she and her son taunt Twisha about carrying another man's baby? 3. How can she place in public domain the alleged assessment by Twisha's doctors of her mental health when that is strictly confidential between a doctor and patient? 4. Who is she to call Twisha's decision on abortion an act of cruelty - abortion is legal in India and its ultimately a woman's body and her choice within the framework of law 5. How can she conflate prescription medicines with drugs ? Where is her evidence on drug usage ? and how does she respond to the charge by Twisha's family that her husband was the drug addict 6. How can she as a woman and a judge indulge in the worst sort of character assassination of a young woman who is not even alive to defend herself against the smear 7. . Finally, detailed Whatsapp conversations show the living hell that Was Twisha's life. How does she respond to the allegations of dowry and harassment? This was an often unpleasant, but necessary exchange. Do share your feedback. thank you

My best advice to any young person is to avoid the attention economy as a life/career/job path. Do something else - anything that helps people or builds something in the real, tangible offline world. If I had a time machine to restart my life, that's what I would do.

I watched this mother in law across several interviews yesterday. And I found myself awake most of the night deeply disturbed.
This would be one of those unforgettable moments in our country where a woman speaks of her possibly murdered daughter in-law in this cold, calculating, manipulative way w zero grief or even pretending to be sad.
We need to build solidarity and support for women we may not know at all but who need support to negotiate and re-negotiate their lives.

I cannot fathom why foreign journalists consider it kosher to treat Indian officials and citizens with such contempt while being completely oblivious to the muck in their backyard. It’s not only racist but at this point, quite obviously stupid and ineffective.

I found the case deeply disturbing, especially when you read about what the mother had to go through to get her children back. In the aftermath of the movie that popularised the issue in India, Norwegian authorities once again responded with haughtiness.

If the question is of trust, then I wonder how do Indian expats in Norway continue to trust the country to not take away their children on pretext of “bad parenting” after the Sagarika C case for which Norwegian authorities never gave a satisfactory response.
