Wise words.
Paisley, Ferguson and the great managers replenished before the legs of the key players ‘went’.
These days the manager has less of a say in recruitment.
It is all about success planning (as the corporates say).

@robbopalmer Paisley used to say he wanted his best players legs to go in another persons team. He was the master of it. Fan pressure didn't make them miss out of Guehi that's bad strategic management by Edwards and Hughes. They are equally to blame as Slot in this.

@JaseRoberts_ Smart enough to carry on with the same players, formations and largely the same tactics. What helped @LFC significantly was City dropping off substantially and Arsenal not have the capability to mount a serious challenge. LFC done it a season where the competition fell away.

Slot didn't luck his way to a title.
He was smart enough, initially, to take the brilliant squad he inherited & make only minimal tweaks.
The issues started the more he gradually implemented his own style & methodology.
Now this is his team, his style & it simply doesn't work.

I struggle to see how Liverpool continue with this manager beyond the season.
The belief’s gone, the willpower, the intensity… nearly everything good Klopp instilled in this side has been undone in the space of a year.
You can forgive bad results - but not this dire mentality.

4-0 down before 60 mins is embarrassing, doesn’t matter who Liverpool are playing. When is enough enough. At what point does big decisions need to be had? How can you watch that, and go next season yeah we are going to be better, when at no point this season have we seen it.

Arsenal led revenue generation for the women’s game at €25.6m. @LFC generated €836m.

The growth in women’s football (soccer!) isn’t coming from one place or one country. It’s happening all over the world. - China has added 186 million fans - Brazil has 39% of the population interested - India has 35% of the population interested - UK fan interest jumped 15% in two years - Switzerland grew its fanbase 22% in 2024 This matters for brands. Women’s soccer is increasingly global. So your strategy has to be specific. Which country are you trying to earn trust in? Which league is driving culture there? What does “showing up” look like in that community? The brands that win will do the work market by market. That’s how you turn a sponsorship into a relationship.

Florian Wirtz's first season at Liverpool, following his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, has been difficult to get a handle on.
He hasn’t been good enough to be described as a definitive success, but not bad enough to be written off as a complete flop.
At club level, he’s still working it out, still looking for his place, both literally and figuratively. For his country, he looks like he has found it.
There are plenty of things for Germany to be worried about as the World Cup rapidly approaches, but Wirtz will not be one of them.
