Funny isn’t it? An incredible performance from Spain 🇪🇸 Yet the analysis (on UK 📺) is about the France 🇫🇷 defence. Accentuate the positives Rather than focusing on the negatives.

@anlabyjools That is a good question. Rubbish isn’t it to focus on a flash interview rather than a WC semi.

@robbopalmer If it’s in the past why is it being raised in player interviews in run up to game.? Of course the focus should be on tomorrow but it is the joirno’s setting the agenda. But you stick with your own. We will make up our own minds.

And no criticism of the post match interview. They are a modern necessity & a thankless task for a reporter Gabriel Clarke is the best. Asks real questions & reacts sharply to replies Bucking the trend of the cosy cheerleading who can have a set of prescribed, soft questions
Rob Palmer@robbopalmer

Superb response by captain Harry Kane who measures his word like his fine finishes. It is Team England despite some media trying to create a divide Tuchel is refreshingly honest Bellingham brilliantly forthright Kane calm & considered No criticism of the post match interviews

@AaronDiskin1 Aaron You know me. And you’ve seen many tetchy post match interviews. Let’s agree that it was clumsy. Not premeditated

@robbopalmer Rob, you know I really respect you and I wouldn’t be where I am without some of your help of the years but as a journalist now fully qualified, I have to tell you I really disagree with you here. I think it was a cheap attempt causing division from Clarke

@benjbousfield @robbopalmer @stusfootyflash If he’d have started by how Tuchel praised their mentality first, then asked about the performance nobody would mind, but they way he went straight in with it there was only ever one aim and that was to cause an argument and a story, scumbag behaviour!

@JPryar Fair point. Let’s agree to let it pass and concentrate on tomorrow.

@robbopalmer It’s the fact he purposely didn’t divulge the positive parts of Tuchel’s balanced review. That’s where this is all stemming from. We all know the response would have been different if it had been…

@robbopalmer He selectively took one negative from the Tuchel interview and weaponised it. He didn’t mention the storing mentality point because Tuchel belittled him over even raising. Was a petulant manner in which he approached the Bellingham interview. Tail between legs moment.

@robbopalmer He could have asked JB, manager was happy with mentality but not technical performance. But he enhanced the negative side of question. Normally he’s better than that. Think he was thrown by TT looking at him like he was dense,

@TigerDor @sdaveak47 You mean NP not Gabriel? NP tore a strip off the us on air for asking him if a report from BBC Leicester was true that he was heading there! Then when he’d finished media duties shook our hands and said it was his last day at City!!!!!

@TigerDor @sdaveak47 Maybe. But knowing Gabriel, the last thing he’d want to do is upset a manager or player. Sometimes an unintentional occupational hazard. *see Nigel Pearson’s last interview at HCAFC manager for example 🤭

@sdaveak47 @TigerDor Not sure what gaslit means but… From experience you usually offer a soft opening question: “What are your thoughts?” “Sum up your emotions?” The fact the country was euphoric yet TT wasn’t happy needed to be addressed. Although I think the question may have been better phrased

@robbopalmer @TigerDor I know what was said, I won’t be gaslit on this. As a starting point, do you agree that when talking to Jude, Gabriel only put forward Tuchel’s negativity towards the team?

@robbopalmer Thanks Rob. Biggest issue now is the threat of lightening and kick-off delays. Let's hope for a good game - and an England win!

@TigerDor @sdaveak47 Yes. If that had been Harry’s response he would have had to ask the follow up question. I’ve been there many times. And Jude is just a bit different in his personality. It’s what makes him what he is.

@sdaveak47 @TigerDor Respectfully disagree Scribe his questions and see what he asked. It was just one of those awkward moments. We all have the and Gabriel is the best and most experienced. Unlike the trend to get camera-friendly reporters who ask pre-prepared questions.

@TigerDor @robbopalmer It does look like he was deliberately trying to get a rise out of Jude (which he knew he wouldn’t get with Kane). Being generous I’d like to think Clarke just lost his head and had a bad day at the office. I don’t like journo’s claiming those unhappy want cheerleaders.

@guylwc Apart from the luvvie bit ❤️❤️I agree with most of your sentiments Guy. Managers generally dislike doing them. Reporters are duty bound. And clearly you don’t tune in for them. Considered ivs are better Nb. Winning players do tend to like doing them especially if they scored

@robbopalmer Typical media luvvie supporting their own. Necessity? Who really listens to these interviews? They would be far better done the next day after some reflection. In my circle, we switch on at kick-off, do something constructive at half-time and switch off at tge final whistle.
