So how is that not a system that protects the politician more than the voter, and creates every incentive to abandon principle while keeping the pay, the perks, and the publicly funded lifestyle intact? This is part of a bigger problem, but Lori Idlout’s case is the one in front of us right now. She’s the one keeping the seat, the funding, and the perks after stepping away from what voters thought they were electing.
