A problem I had was I wanted the fourth punch to do a knockback too. Timing a punch if it was triggered while within the last animation. This was too difficult. Solution? Simple. Just build an entire combo system to eat the inputs Max. Hell, make a visualizer with @kenney icons.

More progress on my #indiedev #beatemup made in #godot I've got knockback working satisfactorily now. There's a few different ways to knock the enemies around.

@Anonymous808081 I'm not familiar with the python crash course. When I was learning python my main reference point was this website: zetcode.com/lang/python/ But you could just start with godot and use python after, they're that similar.

@gatormandev Also do you know anyone who has used Python Crash Course 3rd Edition. Or previous versions and made the switch to Godot?

Gatorman returns: In Godot. So years ago I stopped working in unity. Mainly due to the decisions of the now exiled CEO. In that time I finished 1 game jam entry and made a character creator in Godot. I'm coming back to begin work on Gatorman in Godot now.

I pulled the level 1 file I had in blender and threw it into godot. I'm so glad I stopped building levels in unity towards the end of my time in it, and had planned out the bulk of the level in blender as it meant I could just re-export it to gltf. #indiedev #arcade #beatemup

@Anonymous808081 If you use GODOT, it's syntactically similar to python. And once you learn any coding language it's easier to pick up the others as the concepts are the same, just the syntax changes really. I recommend this site for godot. kidscancode.org/godot_recipes/…

@Anonymous808081 I think gamedev is good to jump into. When I first started learning programming, I started with UIs in python. I think gamedev is great for the same reason, as you have a visual result to see what effect your code has. And for learning, it is great to have a project to do.

I'm a dumb dumb and I forgot to post this when I posted my previous clip. Got some basic movement animations hooked up to the controller.

@Anonymous808081 Yeah my day job has been writing code in animation. Either to make tools for artists or automating rigging setups. I got into game dev because I want to make something my own, something that is going to be incredibly stupid.

@catlikecoding By chance came back to twitter and saw this at the top of my timeline. Looking forward to it. I learned so much from all of your unity tutorials.

For me a good way to learn a programming language is to write a syntax highlighter for it. So I did that for GDScript, mimicking what the #GodotEngine editor does. My upcoming #godot4 tutorials will make use of it.
