As elections get closer, governments start giving direct cash benefits to about 20–30% of voters, mainly women. The goal is obvious: secure their votes. This has quietly become the easiest way to win. The problem is, nobody seems to have a solution. And if this trend continues, even in 2029 we might see the national focus shift to big cash transfers for women voters especially if Modi decides to use this model at the central level. Somewhere along the line, giving out money has become more important than real development. Policies are now being made for quick election gains, not long term progress and that’s the real price the country is paying.
