Well here we are, 44 years on from the day the #Falklands were invaded and what I saw as I came home for dinner today was much more welcome than what was roaming the streets of Stanley 44 years ago. In fact it quite raised my spirits 😃

Actually the Falklands nearly sparked a war between the UK and Spain. Spain backed down and signed up the Anglo-Spanish Agreement of 22 January 1771 (or "Falklands Convention") - there was also the Arana-Southern treaty of 1849/1850 which saw argentina go very quiet for about a 100 years after Rosas got it oficially approved

Having read our constitution and sat on a select committee on the constitution I do not recall ever seeing those words or phrases. Now you see, we can change the constitution here in the Falklands and we have done so. We are free to choose our own future - and we have freely done so. The only country that wants to limit our freedom and dictate to us in a very colonial manner is argentina. No land grab for you here carino. Best wishes from the free Falklands

A bordo del Hércules C-130 TC-68, fue parte del asalto aéreo que permitió recuperar el aeropuerto de las islas. En esa imagen que quedó en la historia, con la bandera británica arriada en manos argentinas tras el desembarco, también está él. Desde ese momento, la Fuerza Aérea Argentina no dejó de volar hacia el aeropuerto de Puerto Argentino. A nuestros Héroes de Malvinas, ese 1° de abril los cambió para siempre. Mañana, 2 de abril, todos los argentinos los recordamos con orgullo, honramos a quienes dieron su vida y reafirmamos que siguen presentes en nuestra memoria. 🇦🇷

When the Lexington turned up in 1831 they took a people with them who couldn't wait to escape "Duncan also took about forty persons, mostly German citizens form Buenos Aires who rejoiced at the opportunity to leave the desolate region of the Falkland Islands where it was cold and dreary" - after that you received two warnings about your activities in the Falklands - there was no third warning. @smfdixon @gav424 Yes, Argentina declared its independence in 1816. It exercised effective possession of the islands between 1820 and 1829, carrying out many acts of sovereignty, such as births, marriages, and economic administration. A town of over 150 people living there

Pasaron 44 años y lo que permanece para siempre es el valor de lo que elegimos defender 🇦🇷. El VGM José Cruz fue convocado en 1982 para defender nuestra Patria como Infante de Marina de la @Armada_Arg, tras cumplir el servicio militar. Durante el conflicto, fue guía de Bojel, de la Sección Perros de Guerra de la Base Naval Puerto Belgrano. Pero su recuerdo más profundo llegó mientras estaba prisionero, esperando volver a casa. En ese tiempo encontró una bandera. Y tomó la decisión de no dejarla atrás, aun sabiendo el riesgo que implicaba. Porque entendió que una bandera no es solo un símbolo, sino aquello que nos representa, que nos une a nuestra historia, a nuestros valores y a nuestra identidad. Y que cuando se la ama de verdad, también se encuentra la fuerza para defenderla, incluso con la propia vida. Por quienes la defendieron en Malvinas y por lo que esa bandera significa, sabemos que va a volver a flamear en nuestras islas. No nos rendiremos jamás.

You guys made the schoolboy error of releasing the Royal Marines. You never do that as they will come back at you and these boys did just that. They came back with a score to settle and settle it they did by raising the proper flag here in Stanley on the days your glorious "heroes" surrendered. It was awesome. Stupid argument. If you study a bit of geology you will find that the Falklands sits on a micro plate. Are you claiming Uruguay and Chile because they are on the same continental plate as you ? (mind you, you were going to invade southern Chile if you had been successful in the Falklands instead of getting a good hammering and sent home).
