@Hullhistorynews No, unless there was some mistake that was not my father. He was born 1926 and his address at the time was 41 West Dock Avenue. 🤷‍♂️

Today we mark 85th anniversary of the Hull Blitz, the two nights of 7/8 and 8/9 May 1941 when bombing reached its peak. This note was received by the control centre in the early hours of 8 May: "Whole of Ferensway on fire." @Hull_Museums @hull_libraries

Hello, there 👋 Have you heard David Lammy MP and Sarah Sackman MP talking about people stealing bottles of whisky and swiping mobile telephones as examples of people who should not get jury trials? Well. I’d like to tell you a story. 🪡 🧵

@medwaymakem @Anna_Soubry Yes. These were specific cases, and largely guilty pleas over a fairly short time period. The proposed increase in the number of cases for Magistrates makes it impossible to work the way you suggest. When do you think cases are prepared?

Those pesky juries causing the backlog! Here’s what happened to me on March 13 at Nottingham crown ct. 1. Prisoners were late into court because there weren’t enough staff in the cells to take them off the vans. 2. Ct 7 - confusion reigns. Court thinks my client is in custody (they’re on bail) my co accused may be coming from prison or perhaps they are on a video link into court? No one is sure other than that, 3 years after both were charged the case is a mess and we need to return in 4 weeks time. 3. Meanwhile in Ct 8 the equipment isn’t working. Prosecuting counsel calls my colleagues phone which is placed near the Judge so she can conduct the hearing. Because the video link isn’t working we’re also missing a defendant & another barrister. We go off to next week. 4. Ct 9 - why hasn’t my client been brought to court ?No chance of getting him on a video link because the equipment isn’t working here either. @DannyShawNews @KarlTurnerMP @BarristerSecret @Kirsty_Brimelow @TheCriminalBar

@medwaymakem @Anna_Soubry The system cannot work like that; it’s now 1:30pm on a Sunday and I am sat preparing my cases for next week, as are hundreds of my colleagues up and down the country. We don’t just roll up at court and ask questions, there is much more to it than that.

@Anna_Soubry Nonsense..if it were a team effort then they and everyone else would go over and above, weekend courts sittings in the evening to accommodate working juries etc. it’s a 9-5 weekends off system that’s failing the public it’s meant to protect and serve and who pays for it 😡

@MsGlynisBarber All of the Labour MPs who went along with this apparently. It is the most appalling piece of legislation that will have many disastrous consequences.
