Respectfully, I don’t think AP has committed brand suicide here, but I get why this collab kills your personal desire to own one. In the short term, sure, there’s brand dilution and pain for people who paid big premiums or bought into AP mainly for exclusivity. But I think AP is onboarding a whole new generation of hype-driven buyers who will eventually aspire to the real Royal Oak, and this Swatch collab is their first stepping stone into the beautiful hobby. The folks who paid second-hand prices or loved AP purely for its gatekept status are probably furious right now. Long term though, the real question is which brand wins the next generation’s attention and dreams and that’s the game AP is clearly trying to play. We’re both speculating, and only time will really show how this plays out naturally but this is my view.

People in many western countries think that they are still the ´first world´ or ´more developed´ or ´superior´ or have a tendency to lecture to or about other countries (which most never visited) Go visit China, Singapore, Dubai, with better tech and infrastructure than the west, even places that move forward fast like Saudi-Arabia, Vietnam, India, el Salvador, Panama, and many others. Keep living in western illusions, the rest of the world is steaming ahead fast while many western countries have peaked and are collapsing under a debt/woke/no-birth pandemic. Quality of life is still high in the west of course, but the gap is being closed at an incredible speed.
