DMK, VCK, and the Communists must stand united across all 30 seats. To defeat the NDA, we need a 'Dravidian Model' of governance in the UT. Why AICC coordinator @girishgoaINC creating rifts in the Puducherry alliance? Instead of strengthening the bloc, the approach seems to be 'butchering' loyal partners. Do @manickamtagore , @jothims and @girishgoaINC were used by @RahulGandhi to help NDA indirectly?

Iraq has some of the world’s largest oil reserves but the money it earns doesn’t fully flow through Baghdad. Instead, a system set up after the US invasion in 2003 still gives Washington lasting leverage over Iraq's oil revenues. Al Jazeera’s Osama bin Javaid explains.

What's happening now is quite remarkable. Iran was ready to make a deal on its nuclear programme on February 27, when the Strait of Hormuz was still open. trump rejected it and launched the war because netanyahu wanted the war--and trump is now stuck. His social media threats did not work. When Iran called his bluff, he took a U-turn and claimed that he was in talks with Tehran. And the Americans did actually send a new proposal for ceasefire to Tehran via Pakistan (I think this was what Trump called "productive talks" on Monday). But Iran has dismissed the proposal and made their counter-conditions. They want a complete end to the war; guarantees against future aggression; ceasefire on all fronts; reparations; and recognition of their "sovereignty" over the Strait of Hormuz. After 26 days of war, Iran's position has hardened--and it continues to launch missiles at Israel and American bases in the region. What can trump do? The least bad option is to accept the reality, make concessions and strike a deal and get out. He will also have to rein in his ally Israel. Or use the troops the Pentagon is planning to deploy to escalate the war with a ground offensive. At this point, looking at Iran's demands, I think the Iranians do actually want trump to send ground forces.

A fellow BRICS member is being bombed. China condemned it. Russia condemned it. Brazil condemned it. The BRICS Chair, India, issued a “please use dialogue” statement and went quiet. Iran trusted us. India had leverage with both sides. That was our greatest diplomatic asset in decades. Modi burned it for a photo-op and a “Strategic Partnership” plaque. Today India sits at the BRICS table with nothing to show; no influence on Israel, no credibility with Iran, no leadership in the Global South. The “Vishwaguru” sold India’s strategic depth for Netanyahu’s airport red carpet. This isn’t strategic autonomy. This is paying a geopolitical price for Modi’s personal photo-op diplomacy.

A final-year law student, Rishi Kumar from Tamil Nadu National Law University, refuses to delete his blog criticising the Supreme Court… despite pressure from his own university. Why? Because the administration allegedly received calls from advocates, judges, and others claiming the post harms the institution’s “reputation.” The blog titled “The Supreme Court of India Has No Spine” questioned the court’s decision to ban an NCERT textbook chapter on judicial corruption. But here’s the real issue: A law student is being told to silence himself… for expressing a legal opinion. His response? Clear and powerful: “My opinions are mine… you do not own my voice or my conscience.” He even said he’s ready to face disciplinary action rather than back down. This isn’t just about one blog. This is about academic freedom vs institutional pressure. If law students… the future of the judiciary are discouraged from questioning the system, then who exactly is allowed to question it? Criticism of institutions ≠ disrespect. Silencing criticism = weakening democracy.

India got average $11 per barrel discount on crude imports from Russia post Ukraine war. As per FT the saving was over $115 billion. This was not passed on to consumers. They could have increased oil reserves with this money. What happened to the savings we still don't know?
Sushant Singh@SushantSin

What pressure. These companies and the government have extracted very high profits when the crude prices have been so low over the years, transferring not even a paisa of benefit to the consumer. Time to pay that back to the consumer now.

You might see the government is suddenly obsessed with getting a gas pipe into your kitchen (PNG) instead of just delivering a cylinder (LPG). It actually comes down to a massive math problem we are trying to solve. Most people think gas is just gas but they’re actually totally different chemicals. LPG is the stuff in the red cylinders (propane & butane) and is basically a scrap product. When we refine crude oil to make petrol and diesel, we only get a tiny sliver of LPG (about 3%). Even though India has world-class refineries, we just can’t squeeze enough LPG out of a barrel of oil to feed 33 crore households. This forces us to import a staggering 60% of our LPG, mostly from the Middle East. If a war breaks out or a shipping lane like the Strait of Hormuz gets blocked, those cylinders stop showing up at your door as usual. Natural Gas (which is then sent as PNG), on the other hand, is a primary fuel (mostly methane). We actually have plenty of it sitting in our own ground in India. While we still import some, we aren't nearly as dependent on the Middle East for it as we are for LPG. By moving city folks onto pipelines, the government is essentially freeing up the limited supply of cylinders for rural villages where you can't easily dig pipes. It’s a huge logistical reshuffle to make sure a crisis in West Asia doesn't leave the masses unable to cook. There's also another angle here. Countries like the US and Qatar don't even need refineries to get LPG, they just suck it straight out of massive "wet" gas wells. India doesn't have those specific types of wells. So, for us to keep using LPG, we have to keep buying expensive crude oil and hoping the 3% we get as a by-product is enough. Over the long term, in hindsight, it was a losing game. Indian bureaucracy should have envisaged this and prepared in advance, esp. when Ujjwala Scheme more than doubled the number of LPG connections to ~32cr. That was a strategic mistake. Switching to PNG is basically India’s way of saying that let's stop relying on a byproduct that we lack domestically and start using the methane (natural gas) we actually produce at home. It’s safer, it’s underground (so it's harder to disrupt during a war), and it keeps the supply chain running even when global oil prices go crazy. For an average person, it’s the difference between waiting for a truck that might not come and having a tap that never runs dry.
